dumb drawbar question

OK - what do youall do to keep a drawbar with hitch ball so the ball is vertical, and doesnt rotate around when im trying to hitch up to a trailer? If not moving a trailer far - i just like to back up, lift, and go without locking the trailer hitch. There is enough tounge weight to hold it on.

I thought about attaching a counterweight on the bottom of the drawbar. And i thought about attaching an arm to hold it - but where to attach the other end of the arm?

If no other ideas here, i'll dig up something to rig a counterweight.

Inspector507, that's very clever. Just don't forget that you can flip the tractor over on its head if you pull too hard while the drawbar is raised too high. It's safer not to use this kind of setup and pull from the fixed low mounted drawbar that most machines have.

Thanks guys. Your answers prompted me to search around and read about the rollover hazards of 3pt mounted drawbars. My trailers are light but i will certianly be careful when using the drawbar (LOW and SLOW).

Wonder if tractor supply has one of those drawbar brackets?

Yes.. tsc carries that exactt ype. They also sometimes carry an a-frame kit .. which is nothing more than 2 pieces that bolt to the drawbar and have a space fro the toplink.. I use one like that on my ford 5000 when doing hayrides..
