Hi All...
Anyone ever mount duals to compact tractors? Just got a Massey 1250 with R1's. Lots of sand and some fairly steep hills to mow (brush hog) on my property. Seems like duals would help both stability(roll over) and traction in deep sand. Thanks for the input.

You can try it but it will void any warranty as duals put too much stress on the rear axel. You will probally destroy the bearings and seals and maybe even the tranny if you use it any amount.

Thanks for the reply Robert. I guess I'm thinking that if anything got torn up it would be the axle itself. Lets say I'm in sand with just the original tires. They spin. Axles spin in the bearings. So I mount the duals and head back to the sand. Tractor hooks up and wheelies! Where is max load at that point? Remember that the bearings are free to spin at will so I'm thinking that the axle shaft itself is trying to rotate on it's centerline. If the axle is stronger than the gear that drives it then the gear breaks-sooner or later (we are in soil and not on pavement). So what we are looking for is the weakest link. Anyone want to guess?

As much as I hate to get off the original topic it is about duals though. I am wondering if a truck come with single tire rear and I wanted to put a dual kit on the truck will there be damage done to the vehicle? What I'm contemplating is using deep dish rims and new extended studs? Any comments would be great. Thanks

Darin,
Yes they make kits to convert your single to dually.

The duals stick out farther so if you go over bumps you will raise the inside tire off the ground if the outside catches, this has more leverage and the leverage puts the pressure to the bearings it also can cause the axel shaft to bend depending on how much weight the tractor is hooked to. You can try it and I have seen tractors with duals, mostly older Ford tractors but I would talk to my dealer before I try it and see if they can recommend anything to help.

If you are going to duals just for traction please ignore this post.

If you are doing this for load capacity -- be careful. Ask your tire dealer for the load rating when mounted in a dual configuration. It won't be 2 time the single mount load capacity, but the total will be a lot more than a single mount tire. The derating is due to the increase in temperature between the tires and the requirement that the sidewalls never touch each other.

Darin-

For dually conversion kits for trucks, try http://www.arrowcraft.com I used one of their kits on a F250 4x4 and was very pleased. High quality components. Looked factory when I was done.
