dual stage clutch

I have this thread on the Kioti forum, I'd like to also post it here. I need another knee replacement. It's got to be that I could hardly push in the tractor clutch. I've been looking up exactly what a dual clutch is. My Kioti ck35 shuttle has a dual clutch. Seems to me the clutch travel is two part. First part is the drivetrain, second the pto. It's the second half that really kills my knee. Stepping down only half way is a dream to my knee. No problem at all. Kinda like the clutch on my 8n.
Am I doing any harm to the clutch? Seems like it's totally disengaging, no clashing of gears. Shuttle works fine.

If you're only changing gears, you only need to push half way (give or take) and if you aren't grinding gears, you must be pushing it far enough. You only need to push it the rest of the way to stop the PTO or engage/disengage it. R,

I have a bad hip, but I can handle my two stage clutch. However I can't do my brake. I bolted a piece of rebar to the brake pedal and it works well. You might consider the same for you clutch for when you need the pto.

I had a MF 35 I got rid of for the same reason. My current tractors are no problem.

On your knee, before you do a replacement look into injections. I injured my left knee getting into and out of sedans. I'm 6'5, 250# and to get into my Ford Tarus at the time, I would open the door, pivot on the ball of my left foot while bending my knee to clear my head and sliding into the seat like most folks do to enter a vehicle where the seat is close to the ground. The weight and twisting action was just too much.

I couldn't walk without crutches and then just hobbled. I heard of this orthopedic surgeon that had developed an injection fluid that could circumvent a replacement which he did also if needed.

I hobbled into his office on two crutches and about 15 minutes later came out waving my crutches as I walked though his lobby with a lot of mouths hanging open in awe. He injects a pain killer and then a very large syringe of the good stuff and that's it. It's been about 10 years now and haven't been on the crutches. I did sell the MF however and the Tarus. After that, if I entered a sedan, I would put my back to the vehicle, drop down onto the seat, lift my feet and spin around forward. Now that I'm retired my P/U is all I enter and that is up, not down and I don't have to twist my foot.

Texasmark, I found the MF 135 clutch a real pain since it pushes straight down, rather than away from your seat. That was one of the reasons mine's gone.

Chuck, you are doing it right, no worries. First half is drivetrain, second half is only for PTO.

I just can't get over what a difference stepping down half way is. No problem with knee pain from it anymore. I was really gonna trade in or sell the tractor and get a hydro. I don't like hydrostatics.
