Anyone know if there are parts available to put dual rear tires/wheels on a Kubota M9540 tractor? I'm just getting thrown around way too much on the singles and was thinking duals might smooth the ride out a little. Might be cost prohibitive but would just like to know if it's possible at this point. I've never seen one with duals is why I ask.

Good Morning - txndncowboy. Look closely at your M9540 Operators Manual. Mine, for my M6040, has a very specific recommendation AGAINST using duals.

This recommendation may be why you have never seen duals.

Get some R1 Radials on it.

It's a wider tire, provides better traction and floatation. Also a more comfortable tire than the others.

My M7040 operators manual also states "not recommended" for dual tires. My suggestion would be to add ballast weight & check tire air pressures. I'd utilize minimum recommended tire pressure for the load on tractor. One of the big advantages of tractors with 6 cyl engines/longer wheelbase such as my 4255 over tractors with 4 cyl engine is smoooother ride!(y)

Okay then. Thanks for the replies and recommendations. I'm already running ballast but to be honest I'm not sure about the pressure. Maybe I do have too much additional air. But I will certainly check the R1 Radials out as suggested or at least see if I have them already or not. I suspect, not. So that might be a way to go. I was already thinking about going to turf tires as I don't really need the lugs with just mowing my hay pastures and the lugs really tear up my driveway.

I seem to remember folks saying that radial tires will require special radial rims. I could be wrong on this - be sure you inquire.
Tire pressure - I run 30 psi in my R-1 front tires - max recommended on tire sidewall. I do a lot of grapple work. I run 16 psi in the rear tires. It's right at the point where I get FULL chevron contact with the ground - all the way across the tread. This gives max traction and the best possible ride while still keeping the tires on the rims.

This is for R-1 bias 6 ply tires both front and rear. R-1 radials or R-3 will have different pressures.

I almost had a heart attack when I saw the price of R-1 radials for my M6040. I'll just grind it out with my Goodyear bias ply tires.

What Tx Jim says cannot be overstated. Longer tractor with taller/wider rubber is the ticket. Found this out long ago with the smaller M-6/7/8/9XXX Kubotas about 10 years ago and traded them for bigger tire, longer wheelbase M-1XXX series. Helped a lot.
My M126X has an or ride seat and wide radial rubber. That helps.
My M135x has all the above and a front suspension. That helps even more.

I've thought about duals as well for the same reason. I would think if the duals were going to be used for additional traction or pulling power they might not be a good idea. But for smoother ride I see no issue with them.

I see guys run duals on tractors not recommended for duals. Not condoning it, but I see it.
Many of us do things beyond our tractors limits every day without even realizing it (pull too much, lift too much, over speed, etc).

A couple of things to be aware of if running duals;
if you have the flanged axles clamp on duals are the easiest to use,
other wise you will need bolt on spacers then bolt on rims.
Very few smaller tractors have the bar style axles any more.
When running duals always run the shorter tire on the outside,
if the same size usually the more worn one, but the same size by different
manufactures can have considerable height differences.
Also run lower air pressure in the outside tire, it will get more squish that way and reduce the
leverage effect on the axles and bearings on rough or uneven terrain.

The clamp on duals are fairly easy to install, 4-6 clamps hooked into eyes and a spacer ring.

Also just lowering the tire pressure can increase the traction and flotation considerably,
even as low as 8-10 psi at times especially in the rears.
If operating on steep sidehills the low pressures will let the tires roll considerably,
maybe even too much.

IF I had a tractor that owners manual didnt advise running duals on, I would put new(er) tires on the inside and same size tires, but worn at least 50% on the outside.
That would satisfy axle stress worries for me enough, but add stability, kind of like training wheels on a kids bike lol
I bet that would be fine, but each owner/operator knows their own situation

Radial "rims", that's a new one on me!!! lol I'm not sure where you guys come up with this stuff?

If you are going to run duals on that Kubota, on other than flat level ground, be sure to have your dealer get some axles in stock for you too...

So if duals are bad, is there such a thing as spacers to get a wider track? That might help from getting thrown all over in the cab but I don't know if much. Or is that the same kind of problem? I just watch my neighbor on his tractor(s) going over the same kind of ground and he barely moves in his cab running duals. He does have a bigger tractor(s) but both his Ford and Massey have duals and I've seen him use both. That's why I thought duals was the ticket but maybe the wider track would help. Would certainly be cheaper I'd think if there are spacers. This Kubota really throws me around. I've yet to check air pressure though. Still got to do that before I do anything.
