I live in WA state (lots of rain) and the ground is clay, which means that even my R1 tires fill up with very sticky mud so I think turf tires are out for my situation, I did just finish turning my front tires around and I was surprised at how much of a diffrence that made I gained about 6" per tire and it did not seem to affect the performance any. Any how I think I'll see how it does for the time being. I do have to say this is a pretty cool site and I appreciate all the feed back I have recieved from everyone. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

yes, thanks to what I'd read on TBN before and during my search, I was real careful about the front-rear ratio.

I carefully measured things both before and after. I was probably lucky to find the turfs for the rear that would keep the right ratio.

Not to put fuel on the fire but here goes,
If u put wide turf tires at wide spacing what is the difference in using duals but w/ narrow tires ( they could have less over all width and even less total weight).
Someone sells sidehill mowers (PT ?) that use narrow duals because of less slip on steep hills mowing across the slope.
On our 1680 combine it has 43x66 floater rice tires or run dual or triple 18.4 tires.

I agree with Hoeman00, duals look cool! But, IMO if were talking weight and stress on the rear axle has anyone considered wheel weights versus duals. I've seen posts here with compacts with heavy wheel weights, the resulting stress would also be increased. I'm sure some stress would be increased from duals riding on the outside dual, but it looks to be stressful either way. The rear axles are built to handle the stress from attachments too, wouldn't a boxblade weighing 750 lbs. be more stressful than a boxblade weighing 350 lbs. Maybe some mechanical engineers need to put in their $0.02.

Well.. I'm a Civ Eng.. not mechanical.. but at first glance, think of a lever.. the longer the lever is the more the weight / pressure is amplified... the dual rim extends the leverage that the axle and bearings are experiencing.

And as for weights.. the Eng's designed the system for the wheel weights, etc.. not specifically the duals.. ( except for some tractors that were designed with duals in mind.. ).

I'm further up north than you near Seattle. I have turfs on my tractor and they work really well. The main difference, however, might be that my soil is glacial till (see all rocks and sand). I think that you'd actually be quite surprised how well the turf tires actually grip.

I have turfs on my 970 and I like them alot more than my R1 on my last tractor. Now I can do work on my property and not rut it all up like I use to with the old tractor with R1.

I never thought they would work as good as they do, With all the rain we have it's better to flot on top than dig to the bottom, I have taken this tractor places on my property that I would not been able to get with the other one.

The area I live is very muddy with a high water table and turfs do a great job in the mud!

It's funny... I'm a big ag tire fan.. I love those deep r-1 cleats... all my tractors had r-1's.. but I just picked up this naa, with sand tires.. I think I'm going to make that my bushhog machine for a few cuts, and see how the pasture responds... ( though the r-1's havn't seemed to affect it. much).

Years and years ago - My father had an Farmall Super MTA Diesel With P/S and a Fast Hitch (Nice tractor). /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Well I kinda missed the Dead farrow and crossed on a angle and busted the axle twice. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Here - you have a tractor on the ground on one side and big set of duals sitting out in the field for everybody to see. My dad took some ribbing from his buddies on that. IMO the big rigs are beefed up for Duals but I can't say that about CUT's.

When I was a younger man ... er, much younger man ... we used duals on most all our tractors to handle lack of traction and mud ... these tractors were mostly Ford 8 N's ... sometimes it looked like they were wider than they were long but, it work very well with no problems ...

I believe they also made a set of 'helper' paddles that bolted on with an existing rim with rubber... they looked similar to the steel paddle rims.. but worked from what I understand.

I would love to see how the turf's hold up in the mud, I have R1's all the way around and in 4wheel drive I still come to a complete stop with the fronts just spinning, the tread completely fills with mud and the tires look like drag racing tires. I would definitely be open to try something diffrent if it would help in the mud, and at the same time give me a broad rear end for a little more stability.

I think you'll find the turf's will float better, but will fill with mud faster as well. Turf's don't clean out very well.
