Driving equipment on the streets

Anyone from California here that knows what I need to do in order to drive my tractor on a residential street? I've searched the online vehicle code database but it's all double-speak to me. I've left messages at the local PD traffic desk but they've never returned my calls.

The issue is I have to take it for short spins on the street while I'm working on it. Living right next door is a retired police sargent that loves nothing more than sit around and find violations with everything in the neighborhood.

What I've gleaned so far is that I need a slow-moving vehicle placard and possibly a red tail light.

Anyone have any inputs from their neck-of-the-woods?

It will be in there somewhere. It used to be that you could use it in farm-related travel on the street, but not use it like a car. But that was over 30 yrs ago.

1. Environmental impact report - 8 copies
2. Traffic pattern studies for 6 months
3. $10,000,000 non refundable bond
4. UN-insured motorist coverage
5. Hazardous waste mitigation coverage
