Hey, I don't own a tool cat. But I own a compact tractor. I've been looking to get a skid steer and then I came across the tool cat. We are a property management company and would be primarily using it for snow removal. Which is why I was looking into the skid steer. The only major advantage to the tool cat for our purposes would be if it can be registered.

So that is my question. Can it be registered and driven on the street like those "mini trucks" can be?? How do you guys drive it on the street?

And lastly, just so I can get a ball park idea of how much more I would be looking at, what is the ball park price of a tool cat less the attachments?

Thanks for any info,

COllin

In western Mass. it is treated similar to a tractor on the road by the men in blue? Excellent choice for snow removal and mowing. Cab version with road kit lists for $38,500-

I don't believe it can be registered. In my state, mini trucks can't be registered either. UTVs and ATV can't travel the roads. No one hassels tractor or construction equipment traveling the roads/streets. It could probably have a SMV sign but flashing lights should be good. In my city of 250,000, the city hires farmers with larger ag tractors and front snow plows to clean the streets after big snows. The tractors will travel at 15-20mph, often in teams of 2-3 and clean the major roads. City gets roads cleaned off faster with less equipment and labor costs.

Here anything going less than 25 mph has to display the slow moving sign when on the roads, streets are alittle different as there is lower speed limits. Personally I cant see a problem when traveling in daylight with a SMV sign, but I do have a flashing light also.

1) Toolcat has an optional road package that gets you tail lights and signals that make it safer to use on the road.

2) At 18 mph it is not going to be efficient to drive across town, but from job to job within a neighborhood it might be good if you don't have a dedicated truck/trailer for each machine. It is certainly easier to "drive around" than a skidsteer in my opinion.

3) Registration will be dependent on the municipalities that you plan to run it in. It may not need to be "registered" in order for you to run it from job to job for snow removal. Gotta check with the authorities on that one.

4) Price is highly dependent on options, but to be practical for snow removal, minus attachments, you are looking at ~$39,000 to purchase the machine (Toolcat D, cab/heat/air, high flow, 7-pin control kit, block heater, road kit, rear lights). From reading the other threads, it seems that many dealers are closer to retail ~$43,000 on the machine. So if you are a sensible business person, negotiate and shop around. You can get a Bobcat skidsteer that would be adequate for snow removal for significantly less ~$22,000 new 130.

5) Toolcat has another major advantage to a skidsteer for snow removal in that one can plow or blow snow and apply salt/sand at the same time. You can also carry shovels, brooms, etc and an additional person easily.

Ask your dealer to demo a used model if possible. Mine let me use it for a weekend which ultimately resulted in a purchase by me!

In my area, the Toolcats are exempt from registration as long as you have the road kit (turn signals, etc.) and legal to run on the road.

I sold my CAT 910 because I could not get an exemption to run it on the road.
