I see in the first picture that there is a lot (relatively) of snow in the lower area. I have problems with drifts in my driveway where it is lower. You might want to consider which direction the prevailing winds are when it snows, and over winter when it doesn't. Raised a bit extra will likely leave it clearer.

The snow drifting is a concern i have and the long term plan is to plant at least two rows of trees on the wind side of the driveway. Raising the driveway a bit is a good idea, hopefully between that and some snow fence I can keep the worst of the drifts off.

hello i have a 1000 ft gravel driveway, all i did was dump the gravel down i graded it about 6 to 8 inches deep no fadric never got any weeds i mow the sides so grass dont grow in. here we have quarry prosses its 3/4 stone mixed with stone dust it packes like concrete after a while.

Did you grade the topsoil off or did you just put the gravel right on top of the ground? How has your drive held up? Has there been any large trucks on it, cement trucks or tri-axles?

Thanks for the replies

What is the purpose of putting fabric down in the first place?

Look at how far windbreak trees need to be from the drive, as well as snow fence. (you may already know this :) )
For snow fence, recommendation is (35 x height) of fence for distance between road and fence. So 4' fence, means 140'. Trees for stopping snow will depend on the type of tree. Snow drops on the leeward side of the trees, so you don't want it to drop onto the drive, but before the drive.

Took several years for my pines to get to a height that they stopped (slowed) the wind for no driveway drifting. Until those 15 years passed, I used snow fence about 70-100 ft from the drive.

Haven't really looked into this yet. I was going to wait till the driveway was in and then see what different distances from the driveway looked like. The plan that I was thinking off the top of my head though was about 150' from the drive I was going to have a row of oak (maybe) trees and maybe a second row farther back.

Due to the length of your roadway this may not be viable but do consider holding off on applying the final rock base or for that matter most of the road project until the last of the heavy equipment vehicles have done their job and are gone from the home building phase, cement trucks, lumber trucks, roof truss boom truck etc. If you are tying in the pad cut with the road cut I think that would be ok as long as your area is seasonally dried out. Good luck and make it a fun experience!
