tried a search but not really sure how to describe what I'm looking for.

Basically my father-in-law is wanting me to make him a drawbar with a ball mounted on one side of the square tubing, then a 2" receiver on the next side, then a 2 1/4" ball on the next side..etc, etc...you get the drift. Who here has already made one? Tips? Ideas?

Thanks

If it is for on road, I would be afraid of the liability. I would just buy one that has the three balls and a clevis or get one of those with interchangeable balls. If it is for off-road, just cut the stud part off and weld around the base of the ball.

definitely not for the road...merely for moving trailers around the farm...back under them, pick up..move to next location

Make yourself a 3 pt. receiver similar to this then just buy the slide in the has a different size ball on each side. I already have several individual slide ins for 1 7/8", 2", 2 5/16" etc. that I move my trailers around with.

George,

Like your hitch, but curious how the top link hooks up. Doesn't look like anything I have.

THKS.

Ron,
The top of the square tubing is notched on both sides to accept the standard adjustable top link of the 3 pt setup. I just drop it in and put the pin thru. I've attached a close up of the top link. The bottom is a standard drawbar.

Thanks!

That cleared it up for me.

Here's yet another solution. This is simple and works well for us. And unlike a 3-point mounted hitch ours prevents the up and down motion that comes from jumping on and off the back of a trailer.

But you can't back up under the loaded trailer, lift the 3ph and drive off.....

I'm assuming that you still get off the tractor to lock the hitch to the ball before you move the tractor.

We have a $19.95 Harbor freight fold down screw jack on our trailer. We back up to the trailer, lower the tongue of the trailer with the jack, fold up the jack, lock the coupler and go.

We use the trailer for moving a lot of heavy merchandise on our property. Jumping on and off the back to load or unload isn't a problem since the draw-bar hitch keeps the back of the trailer from shifting and mashing your toes..

Always if going on the road or plannig on _using_ the rig.

But hardly never if moving a bunch of items to mow around them, from here to there, manuvering out of a tight place so can hook up to the pickup, etc.

Your hitch looks neat for the way you use it tho, haven't seen a slide-on setup like that before.

I do the same here. My 8n is my 'yard' tender, and i leave a ball on the drawbar to puick up and move trailers. I've found by leaving the small 1 7/8 ball on it.. i can back up to both my 1 7/8 trailer and my 2" trailers.. lift and move.. then mow.. etc..
