I'm about to change the fluid in the hydrostatic transmission of my B2150. I have never done this before,
so I studied the manual pretty carefully. My only concern is the size of my drain pan. There are two drain
plugs in the bottom the case. My guess is that opening either one will drain 90% of the fluid, in which case,
I need a bigger drain pan. I figured it was worth asking here before I bought a drain pan that would probably get lost before I needed it again.

Can anyone confirm my hunch or give me the good news that the case drains in halves?

Thank You

Craig,

I don't know anything about your tractor, but on mine the transmission holds about 10 gallons. I drain out about 2/3 of a bucket, put the plug back in, dump the bucket in the waste oil barrel and repeat until most is gone, then drain the other plugs.

Al:

Thanks. I was afraid that most of it would come out of either plug. The routine of putting the plug back in sounds pretty messy, but it would work. One more case of the k.i.s.s. principle at work.

Thanks, and happy Holidays

CraigM,

I have a B2400. Just recently, I replaced all the hydraulic oil using a drain pan that held 17 quarts. That's 4.25 gallons. The manual said something like the capacity of the case was 3.6 gallons. The drain pan also took all the oil from the front axle case.

I use a drain pan that acts like a closed container that I got for $10 at a local parts store.

Craig,
Do I have the link for you!! check here for oil and filter change info and pics on a B2150HST. I have a gear drive B2150, but Mike (on the link) says he uses a 5 gallon pan. The hydro service is about halfway down.

Craig,
I have a B2150 4X4 with FEL & HST and just recently changed the hydrostatic transmission fluid to Super UDT. I use a large pan that holds about 5 gallons. It is actually a plastic watering pans for horses. You should remove both plugs in the rear, just to be sure you get all the fluid out. There is also a plug near the mid pto that should be drained...I think less than 1 qt came out.
Make sure to clean the strainer (as discussed in the owners manual) and change the filter.
You will need to put nearly 5 gallons of fluid in back in, I think I had roughly 1 qt leftover in the super UDT bucket.
