Would someone point me to where the drain plugs are for the gear box and the fill plug? The 50 hour service calls for replacing this gear oil,(80W 90) but I kind of can't locate them. ( don't have a service/repair manual)

I have changed the engine oil, hydraulic fluid, and the filters, including fuel filter. I did not know if the original owner had performed the 50 hour service, and now I have 124 hours on the tractor, so to be safe, I am performing the 50 hour service to be safe.

Another observation, when I removed the hydraulic filter, I noticed that it did not have a magnet on it, like the new one I installed, does that mean that the 50 hour service had been performed, or they went the less expensive way, and installed a filter without the magnet? Any insights?

Thanks

I'm guessing you mean the front axle? There are two drains located on the back of the bevel gear housings near the hubs. There is a level plug on the front left of the axle, and a large fill plug in the front right side of the axle. You remove all the plugs and let the old oil drain out, then replace the drains and add to the fill until it comes out the level plug. After it seems full, run it for a few days then re-check the level. You'll probably have to add more oil, as much as a couple of quarts, since it takes a while to work down around the bevel gears and reach a final level. There's a few threads here about that.

I've heard of some hydraulic filters not having the magnet, they normally come with a new one. Any chance it's an aftermarket filter? The HST version of this tractor has 2 hydraulic filters, one for the hydraulic fluid in general (with magnet), and one specifically for the transmission. The HST filter doesn't have a magnet, I believe. The gear drive model has only one hydraulic filter (with magnet).

I think it'd be worth your time to look into getting at least an owner's manual from a dealer. Lots of good info in them. The workshop manual is pretty expensive, may not be worth it unless you're going to do repair work yourself.

Thanks for getting back on me for this. I did watch the u-tube ones, but he was using and HST and it was a 2011, I thought there might be a difference on my model, so I wanted to double check, pick your guys brains, and thank you all for your kindness and replying with answers.

I had a suspicion, as I looked around, and I simply wanted to confirm what I thought was the only possibility.

Thank you so much for the reply, pictures and post. It is very much appreciated. Only in America do I find this kind of people, in my opinion.

Thanks, again.

I own a kubota l3400 HST and I have a slow leak on the bottom of the bevel housing (the seal is bent in a little) on the front axle, do you know if this is something that I can fix myself or would I need to take it into a shop.

If I understand correctly, that housing is just an O-ring, or if you are speaking of the plug in very bottom, that's just a R&R part. Pull it out, clean the hole and tap in a new one...(will be messy even if you have already drained the oil)

Thanks for the reply, yes its the cap at the very bottom of the bevel housing, I must of gone over a rock and put a slight dent on it. Its not the drain plug but the cap at the bottom. What tools do I need to pull that cap out and should I drain the axel fluid as well. Any advise helps thank you.

All the oil (on that side at least), will come out. I seem to remember when I took those out, using a pick or a small, straight blade screwdriver to get under the lip and pry it out. Just be careful not to mar the sealing surfaces. The dealer should have these plugs in stock. just tap in the new one (carefully to keep it square) and refill the axle and check the oil.
