Drain First?? When cleaning the transmission fil.

Can you clean the transmission fluid filter on a yanmar w/o draining the fluid, or is the fluid level above the line, and if you take it off to get to the filter, will fluid go everywhere? I just want to check the filter for trash and see if the fluid needs changing.

You have to drain the oil first.
