My brother just bought a new one 2 days ago.
I went to unlock it and discovered there is no way to unlock the passenger side door from the out side. Is this plain stupid or what?
Needless to say my brother is highly P O about this
, especially since he's on oxygen and the lack of out side access through this locked door highly over taxes his breathing ability.
If it were me I'd just take the piece of crap back to the dealer and demand my money back.

Now that most new cars and trucks have remote keyless entry, GM must have figured there's no need to unock the passenger door with a key.

We have owned our 2005 Malibu for 10 months and I just noticed the other day there was no way to unlock that right door with a key... shows you how much I used it in the preceeding ten months!

We have a 2004 GM vehicle (a Cavalier) also, and it still has the keyed door lock on the passenger side, but we've never used it either since that car also has remote keyless entry. GM must have discontinued the second keyed door lock in 2005.

Does your brother's truck have remote keyless entry? I didn't know there were new cars sold that didn't have it... even our basic Cavalier has that feature. If it doesn't have one, maybe the dealership can install it for him... remote keyless entry is a handy feature to have.

EDIT: I just got back from the post office, and noticed the Dodge Caravan parked next to me didn't have keyed door locks on the passenger side, so it's not just GM.

He didn't get any remotes with it & there is nothing in any of the paper work or owners manual about the truck having keyless entry.
According to two salesmen at another Chevy DealerShip the Colorado is supposed to have a remote keyless entry lock on the passenger side door of the truck if the truck came equipped with the extra cost keyless entry option.
If it did not come with the keyless entry system the passenger side door is supposed to have a keyed lock on that door.
According to this my brother was supposed to get either a keyed lock or a remote lock for that door.
He did not get either one of them.
Since my brother can't unlock the door from outside the truck
with a remote or a key I'd say he got ripped off or at least short changed.

From what you're saying, if the truck doesn't have the keyless entry option then it should have a keyed lock on the passenger door. Have you discussed this with the dealer, and are they willing to accommodate you?

Just talked to my brother on the phone a few minutes ago.
He took the truck to the dealer today and the salesman told him that since the truck didn't come with the keyless entry system he is stuck with the key less door lock that can't be opened with neither a key nor a remote.
Something sounds fishy about this to me.

I have a brother who recently bought a new Chevrolet Colorado; no remotes and no key lock on the passenger door. He was not pleased to not have a key lock on that right door.

We currently have a 2001 Ford Windstar minivan with no key lock on the right front door, but it does have the two remotes, as well as the keypad on the driver's door. And our 2001 Ford Ranger has the key lock on both front doors, as well as the remotes, and then I had the dealer add the keypad on the driver's door.

Morning LBrown.
I've got 06 Colorado Z71 also the same setup as your brother and still not use having place to unlock the passenger door...I gave the remote to the Mrs.for I like the one key fits all.

Now here a kicker...there was no ash tray or lighter and I ask how come, seems I got the no smoking packing, and if I want smoking packing it will cost little over $350.oo.

Little advice...if the Colorado your brother purchase has locking tail gate, keep the locking system well lube...WD40 etc...also they are little rough on gas mileage until broken in...4K to 5K he'll notice an improvement, plus the rear I feel little light for winter storm travel in 2WD...I added couple hundred pounds of sand bags.

Thomas, the first time I ever heard of a smokers package was when I ordered a new '99 Ford Escort. The smokers package was $15 then and consisted of the lighter and an "ash cup" with lid.:D

Most smokers I know won't smoke in their cars, so the automakers must have figured having a lighter and ash tray as standard equipment was a waste of money! Sort of like having a keyed lock on the passenger door... 95 percent of car owners probably won't use it, so they just quit spending the money to have the feature there for the other five percent.

Have 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel has only key lock in drivers door but does have remoke keyless entry same with 2004 Chrysler Town and Country drivers door and rear hatch. Now if they do not have the remote keyless entry they do have the lock cylinders installed so I would say someone got shorted. Having less lock cylinders cuts down on places that thieves can shove screwdrivers into the cylinders and twisting to open the doors up.
