I want to take a rope, have it tied around both ends ( must be on the curtain ) ( white part ) that would allow it to still budge ( if possible) and then both ends meet in the middle so that I can attach it to my chain fall and get it up to it’s mounting brackets I’ve installed.
Is this possible? What do I need to google to find this particular knot?
12x10 doors
My tractor won’t reach and I’m not wanting to spend a lot of time making a pedestal that’d work with my forks
I understand my chain fall needs to be higher
Thanks and Merry Christmas

Looks like a fun project. I could see a few things working here. Getting a few pallets and roping them together to get the height you need then stacking them on your forks, Chaining/tying them to the forks so it doesn't slip off. I'd even put in a back rail (1x2) across the top pallet so it wouldn't try and slip back as you finagle it in to the brackets. Then lifting etc.

As for knots I am a firm believer in half hitch knots. Easy to tie untie and work holding loads fine.

Honestly, ive installed lots of roll up doors. We assemble them completely on the ground, than tilt (lift) it up inplace with an electric winch.

Kind of like on video, but use winch at upper top to help lift the 12’ tall doors

Im not sure of a knot that wont slip towards the center while lifting.

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but I don't think you have enough room to lift the door with your chain fall. From the picture it looks like, even if the chain was wrapped around the door, it would not be high enough to get to the brackets.

I'd enjoy working on that. How heavy is the door? I don't know if you should have pre-fastened the door to the track as the video shows or not. Since you're asking, I assume that you either didn't get instructions or don't like them. Could work:

Probably need to remove the "shelves" that are already installed. Use two ropes. One near each end of the door. Fasten one end of each rope to the truss at the wall, and use a snatch block/pulley about a foot away from the wall. Form a loop in the rope between the end that's fastened and the pulley with the door laying in it. Pull the ropes and the door will roll and raise. Tie/hold when the door is high enough and reinstall the shelves.

I'd be tempted to try this by myself with the aid of a small HF winch fastened to the bottom chord of the truss maybe 20' away from the door, and tying the two lifting ropes to the winch cable so they lift in unison. Or maybe park my truck or tractor outside the other door and run the winch rope to a snatch block inside. Nothing like being at the site to get a better idea.

Had that very same issue when installing the roll up doors on out Clearspan Truss Arch storage buildings actually. The door header was at 14 feet, 6 inches and the loader was incapable of lifting the door assembly to that height. Weight was never an issue, height to assemble was..

What I did was a took one of my net wrapped round bales and stood it vertically and put the assembly on top of the round bale and picked up the bale and the door assembly and lifted it to the header height and used 2 extension ladders (one on each end with helpers on each to bolt the door to the header).

Was a bit ungainly ( I was operating the loader tractor) but all worked out just fine. The complete doors assembly weighed about 500 pounds plus the round bale (1000 pounds), all well within the lifting capacity of my FEL. How I did it on 2 Clearspan Truss Arch buildings.

I would back the tractor into the garage bay and lash a couple of 4 X 4's to the forks. Make the 4 X 4's long enough to reach the height you need with the forks rolled back. Make sure the forks are spaced so the 4 X 4's will clear the rafters. Put a couple of eye bolts on the end of the 4 X 4's, tie the door to them as tightly as possible and lift it up into place. You should be able to get enough height with the 4 X 4's up between the rafters.

Thanks for the suggestions, I’m still missing approximately 6 ft using the tractor
I’m guessing the doors weigh no more than 300 pds each
I’ve got this put together and worst case scenario is that I have a pretty good lifting point in my shop now for future projects.
I’ll update failure or success
