Luckily, my YM2000B has a factory temp gauge. Yesterday I was mowing in some heavy stuff and noticed my temp gauge never even got up to the cold mark when I knew it should be at op temp. Grounding the "push-on" connector should have pegged it on the hot side with the switch on, but did not. Although the connector and wire looked good, when pulling on the connector, the insulation stretched, indicating a broken wire under the insulation, caused, I guess, by 25+ years of vibration. Anyway, re-crimping and soldering the connector to the wire fixed it. I would never have known of the problem had it been a light instead of a gauge.

Thanks for the advice............I think the warning lights are unique, because of the originality of the tractor......But, I will ALWAYS put a temp gauge on ANY Yanmar that I own.......I will keep the lights for the charge and oil pressure though.

If you don't trust lights enough to have piece of mind when it comes to the water temp, then I would put one on also for the oil pressure! That is just as important, if not more. There are subtle signs of overheating that an operator can notice prior to major damage, such as smell, the feel of excess heat coming off the engine compartment, ect. But if you loose oil pressure and your light does not come on, your engine is toast in no time flat! Just my .02

I understand that Adam.

What i'm meaning is, and I should have posted previously, the charge light and oil pressure light comes on when the key is turned on..........But goes off when the engine is started.........At least mine does anyway.........That lets me know that they are working.

But simple ground shorts happen intermittenly, and I would hate to bet the cost of an entire motor that the light will work the one time it is really needed. If willing to invest in a guage for temp, I would think the small investment to monitor oil pressure would be well worth it for peice of mind. That is all I was meaning.

Yes, I understand.......A gauge is a 'cheap' piece of mind...........Personally, I just like to keep my equipment as 'original' as possible......To me, it gives the true meaning of it, even it is a 'working' tractor and not a 'show' tractor........On the other hand, I guess some, including myself, woud call it "accessories!"

Hey guys, why not both?
I am still trying to work out how to do this on my YM2000, but, on my old
Triumph car I can use a guage and keep the "idiot light".
I think it is easier to see a light come on and check the guage than to trust
me noticing the guage.

I tried to do that but you have to work it out where both sensors are in the water flow to have an accurate reading on both.

True, but they will do that even with the sensor wire disconnected. You have no way of knowing if it will work when needed.

I have had the ROPS and belt on my YM2020D for two months and I like wearing the belt. I hit some rough ground while bush hogging and the belt kept me from being tossed into the air. I was almost tossed off of our Allis Chalmbers tractor when I was about 17 and I have never forgotten the pucker I had when I got myself back into the seat and clutch depressed and brakes stompped.
