Those jello salads were kind of a fad in the 50s, I remember my mother making them from time to time when we were kids. Some were OK, others not so much.

We get a couple Canadian channels on our cable, one of them being the CBC. A few years ago they had a series called "Back In Time For Dinner" in which a modern-day family got to spend a week (?) living as people did in every decade from the 1940s thru the 90s, from clothing to meals. Each episode they had to prepare and eat "typical" meals as people did in the week's featured decade. Some of it sounded truly nasty.

I'll bet that it's all interesting though.

I was a kid in the '50s. My mom was a good cook. I remember having dinner at friends' houses, and sometimes was dismayed that they actually ate like that. Fast food burgers were a real step up for them. Mom always cooked extra when my friends stayed over. They would polish their plates, astonished that dinner could actually taste good.

Today's home cooking is lacking from yester years...instant this instant that, open up can heat or micro wave :( good pot stew took hours and biscuit you didn't hit container on side or cut the bag open....remember smell of home made bread. :)
