Looks like an attempt to slam the US judging by the title.
Great Pix though.

Re: Don\'t know what to say

Seeing the title first, I was expecting something "tongue in cheek", but the pictures were way to somber for "fun humor"; and I think everyone was alive, thus some glimpse of hope....so I don't see cruel humor.

Not sure what the point was (perhaps that's reflective of your title Vin?), but did make for quite a slide show.

Re: Don\'t know what to say

Speaking of funny, I just got a chuckle out of your new avitar Vin!

I just added one too [ok, actual pic's wouldn't be quite that clean; I haven't yet got out with the camera in hand], but that's costing me lots of time and money [hopefully the time on it will soon negate the money /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif].

Title, "The Great USA", then shows destruction, looting etc.
Kind of like showing a pic of a John Deere with a piston rod sticking out of the block titled "The Great John Deere".
It could be taken that way, maybe not, seems like a strange way to title that slide show. "Katrina Aftermath" or "Hurricane Katrina" might be more accurate. It would be interesting to know who put it together.

Re: Don\'t know what to say

I obviously didn’t look at the title with any conscious interpretation other than; I suppose it can happen anywhere at any time. I believe that you are being a little too reactive to something that has no cynical motive. If you find that offensive, I am sure that if you request the moderators to remove it they will oblige. However to the clip itself I think it is put together in a very informative way with great photography and certainly highlights the devastation, destruction that Katrina left.

Re: Don\'t know what to say

Vin, I agree with Redrocker on this one. What is GREAT about devastation. What is GREAT about destruction. What is GREAT about the action of the people. A better title would be the Great Hurricane. Great in the title would then be interpreted as large, as it was.

When you put GREAT in front of a Country it means good.
when you put good in front of a disaster it is sarcastic and very distasteful.

The pictures are good, just change the title.

For example: If your daughter got married and her husband beat her up and you took photos of her bruises would you title the slide show "My Daughter's GREAT Marriage"?

Re: Don\'t know what to say

I think the thing that is great, no make that GREAT about our country is that we have the attitude that we will pick ourselves up by our own bootstraps and rebuild, but we will rebuild it better, stronger and nicer than it was.

I'm sure that Vin didn't intend what some people interpreted, and I admit that I sure didn't see his title as fitting under the current circumstances, but I also look at it from the perspective that not everyone sees things from the point of view of us Americans, and that is OK. So he may not understand what was taken as offensive, and I still may not understand what a "servo" or a "flickmixer" is, but we can still all realize that we agree that this event is tragic beyond imaginable proportions and we can all move past it as friends.

Bob,

Vin didn't select the title. This is from the website of an apparent USA arabian horse breeder FransArabians.
Vin just found it and posted it for us.
