Wow! That must be a low-hour tractor!;)

Seriously, most tractors are started by having the transmission in neutral while sitting in the operator's seat. The seat probably has a safety switch unless it has been bypassed. If you have a fuel shutoff lever, pull it to the operate position and then turn the key on to the glowplug preheat position and then fully to the starting position. That should get things going. I don't know the specifics of your tractor so I'm making a few guesses. Someone with Iseki experience can surely do a better job than me.

Yes, most new equipment is loaded with safety switches. I found myself in the embarrassing position a little while ago of having a tractor delivered by private carrier, and I couldn't figure out to start it to get it off the trailer! Being in the dark during a rainstorm didn't help. Turns out it needs the PTO to be off, the brakes set/pressed, the clutch depressed, both main and aux transmissions in neutral, and the someone's butt in the seat. Pretty annoying...

So when you say you can't get it started, does it crank but not fire, or not crank at all?

Try all that except, Push in the fuel cut off rod, and make sure the high low lever is in neutral?

Just wondering, you bought it without knowing if it even runs?
You may need to check if the battery is still charged, it could be dead, before you do a whole bunch of other things.
We have no idea on how long since it was last started. :)

I suppose once is enough to add another safety interlock, or federal regulation. How many ways can we race to the bottom (for someone's bottom line)?

I have had a 1610 and an 1810 and don't remember anything to it other than giving it a little throttle, pushing in the clutch and turning the key.....don't recall any other safety switches other than the clutch but it has been years now since owning them so it's possible there's something I'm forgetting.

If the transmission has a high/low shift lever, that lever generally has a neutral position. There could be an interlock switch that requires that shift lever to be in the neutral position in order for the start switch to work and get juice to the starter motor. My 1964 Massey Ferguson 135 diesel is set up that way.

Common "safety things" needed to be done before starting tractors include;

1) Turn off rear PTO
2) turn off mid-pto (if equipped)
3) depress clutch fully
4) if hydro-trans -- make sure the peddle is not touched
5) sit in the middle of the seat so the butt checker senses you
6) put gear trans into N
7) put powershift to N

Some tractor's ignitions have a starter lock out function. You have to turn the
key fully off to try bumping the starter over again.

If the machine is cranking over, but not firing, it could be the fuel cut off (marked STOP) is pulled. We are all assuming that you have moved the throttle to the middle rpm position, but have you checked that the throttle linkage has not come off?

If there is no cranking at all and all the interlink safety BS is working correctly, is the battery charged? Fully? Are the cables tight? At the battery AND at the starter?

unfortunately that's how alot of threads end on advice boards, we never know if the OP gets the help he needs or got his machine going.

hope he posts back.

Its human nature, I see it all the time. One of the things I do at work (even tho it is not in my job description) is give advice to Technicians in our company on how to program, install, and troubleshoot telephone systems. Since I have 32 years of telephony experience, with 21 in the field as a Technician, I can fix a few things sometimes. When given advice to go try X,Y and Z they never call back to let me know what if anything fixed the problem, so I never get any feedback to know if my advice was any good or not. If I request a callback in our initial conversation, some will call back, but not all. Part of it is they are busy, but I think a lot of it is they do not understand we need feedback on our advice to know if we are giving good advice or not, and to sharpen and refine our advice. They think we are "all seeing all knowing" and cannot fathom we may be just 'giving it our best shot" and may not actually have all the answers all the time. my 2 cents

Telephony? I had one year of telereal experience with Pacific Tel & Tel about a lifetime ago.
