We had a bad fire season in Wyoming this past year and it motivated me to go back into my mountain property and do some thinning this spring. I cut all the dead pine beetle about 7 years ago, but with more sun and less competition for water, the healthy trees grew like weeds. Now that I'm a little older, I wanted a light and maneuverable saw to cut the branches with. I thought this might be my first time buying a battery powered saw. Went in to my Stihl Dealer and tried all the battery saws in actual logs. I was just not impressed with their duty cycle or ability to run hard. Passed on the battery saw, just not their yet for heavy uses that I will put it through.

Ended up with a MS 151 TC. The lightest pro saw in the top handel. It has the new narrow kerf chain and it weighs around 5 pounds. What a little ripper.

And to stay on topic. We had a Makita blue saw for a little while. It was a good saw, until my dad put bar oil in the gas fill. I cleaned it up but I needed a carb rebuild kit and it was nearly impossible to find a kit. It's still on the shelf getting a nice layer of dust.

Ya my dealer says he has heard of drop of the gas powered equipment but has heard nothing from Makita.

I am hoping someone will pick up the old dolmar line would be nice to see it continue I am happy with mine.

I have a a 58v Echo cordless. 16" bar. Cuts like a dream, quieter than the gas model and fewer things to go wrong. I didn't get it for 'green' reasons, I just am really bad at keeping small engines running well. With this thing, all I need to do is keep the chain and bar maintained. The battery is not that big...sure, bigger than some, but the whole thing is maybe 13 lbs.

The drawback right now is cordless only go up to about 18". That is fine for most of my work, but I am hoping technology improves so I can get a 24" bar on a similar model.

Here is the update. Makita has notified there US dealers that production of all gas products will end in March 2022, but there will still be some products in the pipelines until stocks run out a few months later. As of right now the 6421 is no longer available, stock of the 7300 and 7900 series is limited if available at all. So Don't plan on purchasing any think larger than the 6100, which as a dealer I refused to stock due to at the time there was only a $20 difference between the 6100 and the 6400/6421 and the 6100 because of the K095 bar mount was limited to 20 inch or 24 if you really looked for a bar, whereas the 6400/6421 used the D009 mount like Husqvarna that would run up to 32 in the Makita offering. Makita also removed any bar from their inventory larger than 20" about 3 years ago.

So as of a little while ago, I still have a Dolmar dealer in my little town. He still had Dolmar saws hangin on the wall. He said Dolmar still still makes em!
