According to a story published in today's local news, a Knoxville, TN. company has developed a process called "Pooprints" in which DNA samples can be collected from dogs, and the samples used to determine which canines are leaving behind doggie doo in public areas. They market the service to property management companies and apartment complexes, etc. and currently have clients in 28 states. Getting a DNA sample costs clients $29.95 for each dog, and a stool sample costs them $49.95 to have tested and analyzed. One client says in the story they fine each resident $150 if the tests reveal the tenant's dog created the mess and the resident did not clean it up.

JDGreen227 is talking scat again....:laughing::laughing::laughing:

What some people will doo to increase their poo, errr, post counts. :D:D:D:D

I saw this story and really wondered if there was a demand for DNA Dog DooDoo ID. Really? :D

HOW do they get a DNA sample to match the dog with the dog poo? "Sir, I wish to swab your dog.", asked Dog Catcher Doug as he showed his DCD PIDD(Dog Catcher Detective, Poo ID Division) badge.

:p:D

This sounds reminicent of Orwell's 1984. Did the farm animals have any preconceived idea that the Future would involve this invasive procedure? Alert-Alert-Alert Feces control officer in the vicinity. If only they had an early warning system, they could have cleaned the stalls the night before. Alert-Alert-Alert Proposed TAX on manure in excess of 5 pounds daily.

ok, I understand taking a sample of doo-doo from your front lawn and sending it in to get a dna sample. BUT, how do you get a dna sample from the pets in question for comparison? Get a search warrant? Run up and take a hair sample? There is a step missing here.... :confused2:

In OP I noted that the service is marketed to property management companies, apartment complexes, etc. Appears that if tenants who rent at certain locations and have dogs, such pets are subject to the $29.95 DNA test as a condition of residency and they further agree to pay the fines should testing reveal their canine soiled the grounds and they did not clean it up.

Glad that I live in the country and the dogs and cats can go anywhere they want outside. The dogs go out to the property line to poo most of the time. I have no idea where the cats go.

But I would not like to have to haul around a plastic bag in town to pickup the poop and then get rid of it. But I can see how in an condo, or close living situation needs some way to enforce the rules.
