Our dog, Virgil, hiking in Montana and watching in our house back in North East in his favorite position. A 5 year old chocolat lab.

Well - I kind of figured as much there, Stupit. Hopefully - we can mesh in our nighttime activities. At my age - its about every two to four hours for a trip to the restroom. One of these days I'm absolutely going to have to quit with the two cups of coffee after six pm.

Lets see - that's not me in the photo in the green shirt. I'm taking the pic - got an old skanky pair of sweat pants & sweat shirt on that day. That's why little Olly was so attentive in my direction - I STUNK of country.

He got his name from one of my two great granddaughters. Kind of a sad story - sent them the pic I posted here and asked for their help in choosing a name. The older one understood and came up with the name Olly. The younger one thought her mom was getting the puppy for them and was upset to find out otherwise. They live in an apartment in Spokane and can't have a dog.

Fortunately, they all live in Spokane which is only 25 miles away. So I can frequently recruit them to exercise the puppy out here.

I had a mutt (the black and white one in the background) that I'm fairly sure had some Airedale in him judging by the whiskers on top of his nose. I suspect a healthy dose of Springer Spaniel too.

I got him as a little bitty pup when I was stationed in Charleston, SC. Co-worker brought a box of puppies in and joked around that any that were left at the end of the day, he was gonna use to troll for gators in the Cooper River.

Therefore, I named him Gator Bait. Tied for first in the "Best Dog I Ever Owned" category, with the big ol' Rottie in front of him. He pretty much defined "laid back". If he bestirred himself to actually bark at something, you'd best check it out cuz something was SERIOUSLY out of the ordinary.

We had a sea lion visit the bay this morning barking up a storm. He had all the dogs up and down the beach barking back at him.

Just reminiscing. In memory of my boys.... They always came to the paddock to watch me flying my planes and I really miss them. Luckily I have some fantastic video taken a month before we lost Vinnie the Maremma and 9 months later we lost Reno.
We still have Ziggy the Pug and he still comes and watches me flying and he is joined by Heidi a Chinese Powder Puff. Unbelievably, Heidi was hit by a car just over a week ago and her hip was dislocated. She still limps pretty bad but is slowly recovering. We are very lucky she is still with us.

I have attached a few pics of the boys and added some captions that describe their antics.
Maybe we could have a few more caption shots capturing the personalities of our mates?

Ha! The REAL "water dog!"

Our roosters can almost sound like howling Coyotes! Our dog, however, hasn't been confused by any of it. Sigh, our Xena was diagnosed with spinal cancer about 6 weeks ago; watching closely for her to give us the sign to say goodbye. Life really is but a day-to-day thing...

I love it when they grin.

One of my dogs "grins" when he's excited in the morning and over the months I have grinned with him and made it a big deal with hugs and rewards. Each time and just before he grinned, I grinned first and then he grinned. It's taken some time but he will almost grin on command now and it's really cute. Pavlov was onto something.

Lol mine did it because I was messing with him, it was a bit of a challenge to take the pic with him showing teeth. Mine doesn’t do it willingly but he loves to play.
