For you who own a tractor do you carry a insurance policy just for your tractor? did you know if you own a home and have I good insurance carrier they will cover the tractor on your property at no additional cost. The only time they will not cover your tractor is if you are using it off your property and have a loss, or if you are trailing it and have a loss. Just a little information for anyone who cares :thumbsup:

I was told by my New Hampshire agent that if you have the tractor registered your homeowners will not cover it and therefore you will need a sep.policy.

We were told it is covered by our insurance on home as Cropdustr indicated. No separate insurance here.
Maybe you should check another insurance company, my homeowner will pay off for theif, fire, if a tree falls on it, as long as its on my property when loss happens its cover, no questions asked !!!
In Connecticut a good policy is a HO 5.
I think what he was saying that if it has tags-like a car than that makes it used elsewhere and needs differant insurance. My homeowners covers mine at no extra cost. But i didn't read the fine print-ha:laughing:

Interesting, I just asked the same question as I have a "new" Hesston 100-90 to replace that RCO Tractor that blew up at hour 147.
In texas, State Farm covers the tractor, unless you are working for someone else, or on someone else's property.
Given the variation in the responses, I suspect that what you are seeing is state-by-state variation. Only one piece of advice. Do NOT get separate insurance, get a "rider" on your homeowner's insurance. riders are always cheaper. Well, another piece of advice, print out this page, go to your insurance agent that says "NO" and say "are you certain, or do you want a couple of minutes to check it out?"

I would suggest that you check the section "Special limitations"on your homeowner policy and most likely you will see that there is a limitation as far as tractor lawnmower, mine is 5,000. $ , others may vary, but it is important to check.
Also on the liability section there is a maximum horsepower .
Just to prevent a surprise if something happens, as some tractors are worth alot more and big horsepower.
The best way to insure them is with a farm policy, no limitations there.

We had to get a farm policy. it didnt cost much more, and gave us an additional million coverage against injury of someone while on the property (dogs, horses).

That is the same thing I have. It is rather inexpensive and protects the tractor in transit to anywhere. Also have coverage if anything happens while at another location, as long in the US.:thumbsup:

I had to get a separate policy for my tractor due to the cost. My homeowner policy is only good for 10% of the home coverage which for me was $25K for my tractor. I suspect that this is common for all HO policies regardless of where you are located. I got a rider on the homeowner for a couple hundred to cover the full cost and then found out that Agri-credit insurance was much cheaper. Since I had already paid the premium for my HO insurance I just kept it and added the AgriCredit policy also. I figured that if my shop caught fire it would get both tractors so my homeowners would cover the other tractor + any other items in the shop like my boat which currently has no insurance since it has been setting for 2 years while I work out of the country.
