I found this pic in an old post and was curious about the story behind it. I've seen some stuck equipment before but this is like the Titanic. Hope someone out there has the story.
For some reason, they took it out on the ice. and it fell in... The ice refroze before they could extract it. I dunno when or where as I snagged it off another site.
I saw a large shovel on a barge in Fairhaven Bay on lake Ontario yesterday. The barge didn't look like it was big enough, but my buddy stated that he puts in all the dock pilings with it. Guess he has been doing it for years! Next time I go up a snap some photos.
I not going to pretend I know much about it, but I think another site I saw it posted on was talking about the mines up in northern Canada. When you break through the frozen soil, you end up in soft mud, and things sink.
yea i have seen that pic around before, the thing i always was surprised about was that the hydraulics wouldnt have leaked down and let the boom drop, it apears that it has been there for a while.
It was discovered up in siberia, the carbon readings date it back to the first ice age. it was well preserved being packed in the ice for so long. they think the Ice man that was found was the operator, who was trying to dig out the wooly mammoth that they discoved a few years ago. I swear this is a true story /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The story behind the picture is very simple. Remember when you were young and used to dig holes. Remember you father asking if you were going to dig that hole all the way to China?
Well on the other side of the world where this kid started there is a Chinese father looking into the hole , scratching his head and asking his wife.....did that kid dig all the way down to the USA?
