Does Anybody Go Without Homeowners/Property Insurance?

Yes, if the cost is reasonable for the coverage. We have an umbrella policy that costs next to nothing yet provides us with quite a bit of coverage. After being hit by another car, and seeing the costs involved, it only takes one second to make a mistake that can ruin you money wise. The car insurance only covers so much and one can get into liability issues in other ways that an umbrella will cover.

I read a post, from a very well regarded insurance guy, that insurance companies love people who have multiple policies with the same company. Well, duh, the company makes more money right? Yes, but it is more than just more money from the policies. The more policies you have the less claim costs one is likely to make. Does this mean people with more policies are careful? There fore one just needs to be careful and one wont have a claim?

I figure I will be careful and the cost of the umbrella policy is as cheap as peanuts in eastern NC.

Are you sure you can't join? I think if you or even a family member is ex-military you may be eligible? Have been a member for about 2 years and so far the only problem I've had with them was setting up an online account. They kept locking me out (their security is exceptional). The issue involved using a VPN and was quickly resolved after I called them. Don't know how good they are with claims since so far haven't had any.

A million dollar umbrella is cheap. My wife trains horses for a living. The policy for that is not cheap, but adding a million umbrella that covers her and me for anything was like $300/yr. Of course it has a $1M deductible so that is why we need the other more expensive policy

My dad would have to join to get us in but I have not wanted to bother him to join. Everything I have read about USAA over the years has been very positive.

I use to have insurance with a captive agent. I dropped them several years ago, and am better off for it. I will never go back with a captive agent

In same situation, both of our parents are veterans, neither want usaa.
Usaa was only $20 less when my sister checked for my dad, so he didn't move.

If I had invested every dime of my premiums I'd still be in the hole. Insurance is for those few that have a catastrophic claim. You'll not find a person in that situation that wishes they would have saved their premium money.
