Apparently the folks at Chrysler/Dodge are not able to program an opt out email list, or track when someone ONLY wants to receive recall information.

Last year when we got my wife's Caravan I signed up for email alerts for "Notification about safety and vehicle recall information". I specifically UNCHECKED the boxes for "Brand News & Updates", "Research" and "Service"

EVERY month since then I have received an email from Dodge advertising "Fall Savings from <DEALER> Chrysler Products" or inviting me to "Meet the All-New 2011 Dodge Durango"

2 months ago I submitted an email support ticket with corperate and was told that I would need to work directly with <DEALER>. So, I called <DEALER> and spoke to a lady who claimed to be the person responsible for send the email newsletter. She said that I would be taken off of her list.

Last month I got an email from Dodge corporate inviting me to "Get inspired with Dodge" That annoyed me enough to call the number listed at the bottom of the email and speak to someone who claimed that I would be removed from their list and that somehow my account was misconfigured.

On the 3rd of this month I got an email inviting me to inviting me to "Meet the All-New 2011 Dodge Durango". Today (Sat) I got an email letting me know about "Fall Savings from <DEALER> Chrysler Products"

Any suggestions how to get them to ONLY send me emails for recall info (short of filing a lawsuit for violating the CANspam act)?

I have looked at the FTC Complaint Assistant (https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/) but it doesn't seem to match what I am trying to do.

Am I overreacting to 2 emails a month? Probably, but what I cannot seem to get through to ANYONE who I have spoken to is that their system is broken.
It is sending marketing emails to people who have requested not to get them (which would to me imply that someone is sending marketing emails to the wrong list of people OR that their system has the lists confused).
Perhaps a email to the complaints department at Vertismail (the people who appear to distribute the emails and manage the lists) is in order.

I let my spam folder gather all that kind of stuff and let it delete them. Only people I authorize get past my spam filter.

The problem (and the only reason I dont unsubscribe completely) is that I WANT to get recall info, but NOTHING else. I could setup a filter that would dump emails from them into the spam folder, but that would also dump any recall emails too.

Aaron, I suspect its the same folks who designed the famous 2.7 engine that went in the Dodge Intrepid and some other Chrysler vehicles. You can find hundreds and hundreds of low mileage Intrepids with the 2.7 engine that are otherwise in nice shape but have the famous 2.7 "engine knock". Chrysler's response, "The oil wasn't changed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendation."

So it doesn't surprise me that the folks at the Dodge website can't get it right.

I think there may be a reason for Chrysler's financial condition.

This was a come on by Chrysler Corp. All data as it relates to recalls has been compiled at time of purchase. Chrysler is obligated by law to send out recall notices to all effected. If you bought the car used or a private party, there is a website that denotes recalls for particular models or you can go to any Chrysler dealer to ask about recalls as well. This is a marketing scheme because Chrysler is tanking and they are desperate for business in any way they can think of. You would need to cancel out your subscription entirely to get out of the listing.
