Do you tip the Pizza Deliver Man????

Just happend upon this and thought it an adjunct to the restaurant discussion, but thought it also deserves its own thread........... Do you tip the Pizza delivery guy???? How about the oil delivery man????? The UPS driver?????? The list can go on...... I am going to sit this one out for a while..... They even have their own web site.........view it here...... and vote...

Yeah, we tip the pizza delivery PERSON.

I have to say that because my daughter delivered pizzas while she was in college. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Anyway, we do tip them. We've never worried about tipping them a fixed percentage. We just add $2.00 to whatever the bill is, unless we're having more than 2 pizzas deliverd. I would think that $2.00 is actually going to be 20% or more for our normal order. We tip because these people are getting minimum wage for this work, plus most of them are paying for their own gas, etc. The UPS people, or Culligan water softener people are making more than minimum wage. We do give every regular delivery person that delivers to our home some kind of bonus at Christmas time. Usually a thank you card with $20.00 or so in it.

Pizza delivery - I add in additional dollars to get to the next $5 or $10 increment. Depends on how many pizzas are being delivered and how close to the increment the bill is, e.g., for a $24.95 total, I'd bump it up to $30. This is not entirely a result of my largesse (sp?). It reduces the time spent at the door and reduces the time between the pizzas arriving at the door and me eating. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I have always tipped the delivery person. If it's snowing, or raining, or cold, or I just can't get my lazy and tired behind out of the recliner, one phone call gets pizza right to my front door. To me, thats easily worth three or four dollars /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. I now live in an area where there is NO PIZZA DELIVERY /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. Yes, rural living does come with some minor inconveniences /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wow, you guys have a pizza joint that will deliver... Must be the big city. Nothing around us will deliver.


In general I feel no obligation to tip for anything, anyplace.
In a sit down establishment, I will tip if my meal order is correct, on time and my drinks are kept filled. For bare minimum service they get nothing.

For delivery when I was in town were it was available, I would tip on ocassion if they weather was bad, if it was delivered on time and the pizza looked good.

Nope! But only because they won't deliver to my neighborhood. We usually order ahead from work, pick up the kids from school, head to the pizza place, say high to the owners, shoot the bologna and get some free bread sticks and sauce because our kids are so darn cute /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

But if they did deliver, I'd give them a few bucks. It's the customary thing to do for the convenience that they offer.
