I am getting ready to install Top and Tilt on my L3010 and have been thinking alot about how I will use it. One question that came to mind is; Are there some impliments where you would remove the TnT cylinders and go back to standard links, either for safty or to prevent damage to the TnT components?
What impliments are these ?
For me I am wondering specifically about my Farmi logging winch which can pull 6400 lbs. The top link sees the major portion of this.
Or am I looking at it the wrong way. Do you only put TnT on when you need it?
Thanks for the advice and opinions.

I don't remove mine, and have not found it to be a weak link.

If it proves to be with the winch, then you might think about removing it. Pull the pins and drop in the solid link, not much more to it.

I remove mine (reluctantly) for my s-tine cultivator. It will bind up and wreck stuff.

Gordon, I think that most people leave them on most of the time. Your winch capacity would be easily handled by a hydraulic top link. The only reason that I ever take any of mine off is that the top link has to be removed to use the post hole digger. I have heard that farmers don't care for them, but I do not know that for a fact.

Are you getting your "TnT" cylinders from CCM?

I haven't talked to them yet but I was thinking they would be my first try. I'm looking at the 2" cat1 cylinder with the 21" to 32" range for the top link and don't know about the side link - need to see what they have. I'm trying to get educated so comments are welcome. Thanks

I bought my top cylinder from CCM and soon thereafter contacted them again for advice on purchasing the tilt cylinder. They did a fantastic job of un-selling me, basically leaving it up to me to call the piston stroke and for that, I wasn't going to gamble the bucks for something that might not have been correct. BTW my tractor is a common brand and model so I thought that they would have already had a track record with it. I bought a tilt cylinder from another company that was spec'd for my tractor and it works just fine.
The CCM top cylinder is built and works perfectly. Never having a TnT before just made me uncomfortable having to design the tilt cylinder so I went with what has proven to be compatible.

That pretty much describes my situation. How did you find the other company ? Simple Google for tilt cylinder ?

Like I said, the top cylinder was easy to spec with the given criteria on CCM's website but the tilt cylinder was only listed as a custom order. I did as a last resort call a New Holland dealer :)laughing:) and provided them with my tractor model. Turned out that a west coast (Chino, CA) company called gearmore.com had one specifically for my tractor. Look them up as they show a top and tilt setup in their online catalog. I do believe that they are just a distributor for the cylinders but I can't tell you who as there are no markings on it. I did pay a few extra bucks for it but it fits and works just fine.

Try here, If I don't have it, then there are diagrams to fill out so that I can build you what you need. ;) I'm fairly certain that I'm less $$$ than Gearmore.

Gordon:

Surplus Center www.surpluscenter.com has the exact same top-link cylinders as CCM. As for tilt cylinders, that's up to you to figure out what you need and fabricate the mounting clevises.

I got my top-link cylinder from Surplus Center and I wouldn't be without it.

I put my top n tilt kit on my 4520 the day after I brought it home in 2009 and haven't taken it off since then. I have a planetary auger so I can't think of a reason to need it removed.

I see that Surplus Center is also $60 less unless they do something really special with S/H. Of course there is no DPOCV either.

Not sure what you are looking at Gordon? Here are the 5 top links that Surplus Center sells and none of them are $60 less.

Ahh - I see my mistake. The cylinders I were looking at would have mechanical interference if used as I top link because the tongue is to short. Thanks for pointing that out.

Based on my personal experience, I would never buy from CCM again. I've read all about the wonderful experiences other posters have had with this company but my HTL from CCM leaked after installation. I took the fittings sent with the unit to my local hydraulics supplier and his opinion was that they were the incorrect fittings. He called CCM, spoke with Mark who told him to sell me the correct fittings and that if I sent the receipt to CCM, they'd cover the cost. He did, I did and CCM didn't. I'm not upset about the leaky fittings or the extra $17 I spent but rather the broken promise. For a savings of $17 CCM lost this customer for life. What kind of business model is that?

Seems like that is the worst thing a business can do. If they try hard and do there best and do what they say they are going to do, then everybody respects that. If they don't They can't expect repeat business.
Thanks for the heads up

Gordon, I don't think you will have to search very far to find there are plenty of folks who have had issues with Surplus Center also. I'm sorry flowerfarmer has had a bad experience, but even he admits that most have been very happy with Mark and CCM's service. CCM sells the toplinks and also can provide you with a hose and fittings kit for a seamless turnkey operation. With Surplus Center, I believe you are left to figure that out on your own. Buy from whomever you choose. Just be aware that there are things CCM will do for you that Surplus Center does not do.:)

I've had my TnT for 3 years now. It's been a great advantage for many different jobs. However, there are 2 attachments that do not co-exist very well with the system on my JD 110.

My Kuhn disc mower does not work real well with the tilt cylinder installed. The variable changes to the tilt creates havoc with the cutter bar angle and will result in an uneven cut and/or the cutter digging into the ground. So, I drop the tilt cylinder and use the hard link whenever I'm using the disc mower.

Another attachment that I've discovered problems with is my hay rake. It's a Kuhn (think there's something with Kuhn..) rotary rake and the length of the frame will result in the top cylinder smashing into the mounting bracket that holds the top cylinder up when not in use. The bracket has a pin that fits into the cylinder to keep the cylinder from flopping and banging when it's not attached to an implement.

The cylinder diameter does not allow for enough clearance when I lift the rake off the ground. I have to be very careful to not lift the rake very high off the ground or I have to use the hard-shaft top link when using the rake.

Long story - short: you do have to pay attention to whatever attachment that you plan to use with your TnT. You can have conflicts with the cylinders.

Is this because your top link cylinder drifts or doesn't hold or is there something else about it I need to understand ? If it is a drift problem how long will it hold before you have trouble ?
Thanks for the input.
