Do you know what the purple paint law is?

I read 4 of the top 5 richest counties in the USA surround Washington DC. I've heard Washington DC referred to as, the most toxic environment on earth.

And the beat goes on.........
Yes, 4 of the 5 richest zip codes are in the beltway area.
My older sister lives there. She is an executive VP for a huge insurance company. Makes great coin. Her husband works in the pentagon with Middle East military intelligence (or lack thereof lol)
Anyway, I bet they pull in 300-400k combined. They are very conservative and live in a pretty average, but nice home, don’t seem to have amy money tied up in vacations or hobbies and drive beaters. The real estate and cost of living there is stoopid expensive.
When I visit, I notice a complete lack of neighborliness, ultra competitive and a cold, “drone-like” existence.

i know, my granny was one of them. She taught me, it only takes one bad apple. I've got friends in Florida and they are decent folk, most are.

Doesn't change a thing, a Florida C store at nite is a site to behold, been there, done that.
I think that you could say all of the above about any state.

Speaking of purple paint, why do you think that's not caught on in western states?
Not as many trees to paint purple in some of the more open states (NV, UT, AZ, WY, etc) ?

Here are the Texas rules for posting from Frequently Asked Questions - Law Enforcement (Trespassing)

Section 30.05, Texas Penal Code, provides that a person commits an offense if the person enters or remains on property of another without effective consent, and the person:

  • had notice that the entry was forbidden, or
  • received notice to depart, but failed to do so.
"Notice" means: an oral or written communication by the owner or someone with apparent authority to act for the owner; or fencing or other enclosure obviously designed to exclude intruders or to contain livestock; or a sign or signs posted on the property reasonably likely to come to the attention of intruders, indicating that entry is forbidden; or the placement of identifying purple paint marks on trees or posts on the property. If purple paint is used, then the purple paint must be vertical lines of not less than eight inches in length and not less than one inch in width; placed so that the bottom of the mark is not less than three feet from the ground or more than five feet from the ground; and placed at locations that are readily visible to any person approaching the property and no more than: 100 feet apart on forest land or 1,000 feet apart on land other than forest land.

Additionally, the visible presence on the property of a crop grown for human consumption that is under cultivation, in the process of being harvested, or marketable if harvested at the time of entry is considered "notice" that entry is forbidden.
I guess my take on the Purple Paint thing is that it relies on seemingly ignorant people to 'know' that purple paint means they have to stay out. It seems that the better approach is for the state to make it clear that all personal property is assumed to be 'No Trespassing' unless the landowner has specifically posted otherwise or given specific written permission.

My take on the Purple Paint thing is that the better position for the state to take is that all land is considered posted unless specific authorization is given by the landowner in writing (this would include being able to 'post that trespass is OK, if you wish). This also would mean that landowners cannot be held liable for injuries sustained by trespassers. Why should a landowner need to paint trees/fence posts to declare something that should be the default position.

Technically, Texas' law makes simply fencing your property the same without the need for additional signs or paint. Paint would be cheaper, if for some reason you didn't want to fence the property. For now, I have over 1700 feet of forest land that fronts a CR. That means I need at least 17 signs and or trees painted until I get that fenced. I will use signs since I am fairly sure that most people in Texas do not know about the purple paint.

Let's face it... IF "other people" were as respectful, considerate, and neighborly as we all are; there would be no need for purple paint...

I bet most rural Texans know what purple paint means.

No - I shall not post that. It might be considered political and we shant have that here. Besides - there simply aren't enough trees on my property line to paint ANY color.

I start painting things purple - the men in their white coats will be coming to get me. And even if they didn't - I'd be the laughing stock of our community.

Folks have cut my barbed wire fence to gain access to my property. What makes ANYBODY think that paint, of any color, is going to abate their actions. They have torn down my No Trespassing signs.

Whether it's paint, signs or barbed wire fences - I know and those few folks know - they are trespassing.
