Do You Hide Keys on Equipment?

/ Do You Hide Keys on Equipment? #21
Modern Heavy Equipment with digital dashes and controls have access codes and may or may not have a key if they don't have an enclosed cab. The last loader and blade we bought before I retired had the ability to assign codes. So, if a guy wasn't certified on a piece of equipment his six-digit code wasn't enabled on that equipment. We were using the last six of the SSAN for each operator's code.

Old days, everybody had a CAT and a John Deere key, and they worked on everything.

When I was jobsite superintendent I required a key to every machine that came on the jobsite, in case we had to move it. I had quite a collection after 5 yrs. That ring of keys is in a tool box - once coveted but useless now. On the ranch I leave keys in everything and guns loaded. :D

On the farm keys are left in. On custom jobs or off farm fields the keys are removed and hid on the tractors. Only the drivers know where. Same place dad hid them. Must work, 50 years later and still have yet to have a tractor missing. lol
