I will be getting insurance for my L2800 Tractor and I will be going with Farm Bureau for $80.00 a year. What do you pay for insurance and what company do you have?

I guess it depends on your usage...rather agricultural or residential.

For me, since I'm the only operator and the tractor rarely leaves the property, my home owner's insurance is quite adequate and there is no surcharge. I'm strictly a residential user.

The insurance agent (Nationwide) was asked specifically about this, by the way.

My homeowners policy covers my tractor and implements as long as I'm not in business, I had to check this out as I financed the tractor and the credit union wanted proof of insurance.

I bought our tractor before we built our house, so I had to trailer it back and forth between our house and the new property. State Farm said I needed specific coverage for the tractor since it was on the highway a lot and not being used at our permanent residence. Once we got the house built and moved in, we were able to drop that coverage and the tractor was covered under our homeowners policy. Now the only time I'm covered off our property, is if I have to trailer it to the dealer for service. If I take it somewhere to do some work off our property, I'm not covered, so I don't do that.

I think the rider we had at the time was about $35 a year. But we also had our vehicles, 3 houses, life insurance, umbrella liability, and mortgage insurance with them at the time, so we may have gotten a break on the price (yeah right!!). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

$80 is cheap if you have a boo-boo and have to replace some tractor sheet metal, house siding, barn door, or the side of your car. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif It's rare but it does happen.

Good Luck /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I pay Farm Bureau Insurance $53 a year for about $13,500 coverage for my B7510 and implements.

I also pay a $35 a year membership fee for the County Farm Bureau so the total is $88 a year.

You can't buy Farm Bureau Insurance without your Farm Bureau member number.

I have a comprehensive non commercial property on 30K worth of tractor. It covers me on and off property including transport. ~$300 /yr. You pay more for more coverage...

Yes, it is part of my homeowners policy coverage.

A more important question, do you have insurance on yourself?

Nope, I don't want to be worth more dead than alive. Too tempting for Mrs. Btolle

Life insurance is for young folks. I am 59 and have enough money to bury me and my wife has a nice retirement income.

Every time I see one of those commercials with a gray haired Grandma saying "I just want to leave a little something for the children (and/or grandchildren) I want to puke. Those sharks are preying on old peoples emotions in order to line their own pockets.

The darn kids need to make their own money.

Andrew Carnegie left his entire fortune to charity, none to his children. His reasoning was if he left his money to them they would have no incentive to make anything of themselves. Smart man.

Tom_H thanks for looking up the old threads.

Most of this has been covered fairly recently. What you will notice in some of those threads is an extra important point. Coverage on the tractor is important, but liability coverage is the most important. Many umbrella liability policys do NOT cover tractors even if the accident at issue is on YOUR property. You should check on this and convince yourself that you are covered. Your agent may tell you yes, but if he or she answers too quickly, I would be suspiscious about the answer and as I said, prove it to yourself.
