Do you fill your tires?

If so with what?

I am considering filling my tires instead of using wheel weights on a John Deere LX279. I would like additional front end traction for turning on a slope and will need additional weight for using a tiller next spring.

Would appreciate any advice.

I fill mine too. With Windshield washer fluid to 0 F degrees. Works great, and was easy to do myself.
Lots of threads on filling tires, and a lot of various opinions to pick from.

Methanol & water (windshield washer fluid) to fill the tire about 3/4 full or just over the top of the rim. Personally, I think it's cheaper to get the methanol put in at your local farmer's Co-op - buying the windshield washer fluid in gallons you're paying for the water and the jug too !! Mine is a mix good to +10F and has never froze down to near 0F a few times. My rear tires are 16.9x24 and each one has right at 55 gallons in it - adds over 400 lbs. per tire. I forgot how many gallons of methanol it took to make the mix - was over 8 years ago.

Water is quick and easy and will give you the added weight u need just make shure u add antifreeze in with the water. 4 gal per tire is average.

Front end traction??? You don't mean filling the front tires, do you? I don't think this is recommended. I think only the rears are to be filled. Maybe that is what you meant, but just wanted to make sure.

I had my rear tires filled when I purchased the tractor. The dealer said he would not allow the tractor to leave the lot unless the tires were filled. The reason being the FEL and cab. Safety is important. He said not to fill the front tires.

At the local JD dealership I believe they said they used diesel fuel & water.
My friend in upstate (very cold winters) NY said they use anti-freeze.

I either need to fill the front tires or add wheel weights to the front to offset the weight of a rear mounted tiller. Also I think it would help the wheels bite instead of sliding when steering uphill.
