Wow, that's a heavy cover you bought there. I would think a cover for the south is not needed except maybe in the tail end of the season but up here it's a definite plus. For me it ads a couple weeks of swim time on the ends. I also have 2 - 4x8 solar panels that were retired from the roof of a neighbors house. I divert some of the water from my filter return to the solar panels. It all makes a difference.
