Do old guys need nail guns?

Nailers are big asset, when doing repeated procedures ... nailing sub floor, building frame walls, etc.. But, I think, one of the biggest advantages in their use, is when you only have one hand available. ... holding something in place with the other.

Could not agree more. I am 61 (or 61 and a half as my grandsons would say) and I have always used a hammer. My step son kept telling me that I needed a nail gun. So for the last project I dropped 300 or so at Home Depot for the Porter three gun set and compressor. What a difference for exactly the items you have listed above.

I got my 2nd cortisone shots in both wrists today. Should start to feel better tomorrow, right now I'm barely functional.

Right wrist is 10/21, left is 12/16. I MUST take it super easy for 2 weeks after, and kinda easy for the next 4 weeks (total of 6 weeks each).

I am planning to buy the following...

Air Framing Nail gun (full head - maybe a cheaper one)
26 oz Framing Hammer (coss hatched with mag nail starter/holder)
Air Finish Nail gun (probably a nicer one)
Air Compressor (How big do I need?) unless the Air Compressor I have is good (I doubt it is though, it has been sitting for 7 years out in a damp shed)
Generator (how big do I need).

Does this make sense?

I NEED to finish the Motorcycle Shed project BEFORE SURGERY 10/21.

I will work on the attic all winter probably...

Thanks all for all the advice!
David

DITTO!!!!

Here is our Pinto... These are from last spring, except the last one, that is from when we met him. Took years to convince the lady at the Nurse Mare Foal rescue that we should be his family (but we did). He is the first Horse we ever fell in love with... Trying to get him home with us...

What breed are your's?

David

Cute horse you got there. Ya the nail guns come in handy for stall repairs....that and the portable mig welder. Some people call horses prairie pets. I call them tall gophers.

It's good to see that you young folks (50's / 60's) are getting nail guns and such. Saving "body parts" is the right way to go.

In a couple of months I'll be 72 and some of my body parts are not the best. About 2.5 years ago when rebuilding a damaged mobile home I broke down and got some nail guns. Cheep-O HF, but they work. It was mostly to speed the job up.

I first started to really notice problems last fall & winter while splitting fire wood. Have had some numbness in my hands for a long time, but never paid much attention to it. But now my shoulders are really starting to bother me.

Current projects (roller & Sheep's Foot) need a lot of hammering / chipping on the welds. Sure would like to have a needle scaler. Don't really hurt until later in the day.

Don't scrimp on the compressor. A cheep "oil less" is going to let you down. Had 2 of them on the mobile home job, nearly identical 1 worked pretty good, but could not keep up. Other one would barely work. Same with the extension cord. Started off using one of the home owners and soon found it too hot to pick up.

Pictures are building an Exoskeleton, sheeting & insulating of damaged mobile home.
