10 years ago when I was building my house I paid a company to come in and spray it. it wasn't very expensive in the grand scheme of things. I had them do the entire wall. The reasoning was it's so much easier to do before you backfill and you'll never worry about it. Was it needed, I doubt it as I made sure to put in good drainage around the footings and more drainage near the surface. Personally I would rather invest the money now than have to redo it down the road because I tried saving a few bucks.
