So how much does a grapple like that cost? All I can seem to find are very heavy commercial w/ 2cylinders that are running ~4500, OR something that bolts on for ~$800. Maybe the bolt on would work fine for me, but would rather have something like you show unless its just too expensive.

Less than $1000 delivered if you get a light duty Markham 48 inch which is about the closest thing available today to what I have. Mine is a 48 inch Millonzi which I bought for $500 directly from Millonzi but they are out of business.

You'll also need to set up hydraulics and there are multiple threads going over the options and costs. Bottom line is that you can get away with spending about $100-200 for a set of lines and fittings to use the standard rear remote or you can spend up to $1000 or so to have a dealer install an electric over hydraulic switch. Read the threads to get an idea of what would work for you. I've used both rear remotes and a diverter valve and there are benefits to both.

I'm no expert, but as you have said, that extra 5hp is only $25 a month. If you are going to mow very much, I would want the extra power. If you are going to do any ground work, that extra power is nice to have. If money is tight, then get the smaller machine and get by, but as you have said, not to many people complaining about having too much power. You can get an implement later. That 5hp for $1300 will cost you a whole lot more than $1300 if you compromise and go smaller now and then decide that you would like to have that extra power later.

I know that this is not what most guys here are thinking and I'm sure that the smaller HP machine would work fine, but just not quite as good in my opinion. But then again it is only an opinion, just another way of looking at your situation. Oh, one last thing, get both rear remotes on either of the tractors that you end up getting.:thumbsup:

That's for sure, how often do we see people forego that extra cost up front just to go through all the hassle to get them later on.

A lot of people have no idea how useful the remotes can be, all part of the learning process I guess.
Hey you have to agree about the cost of getting the second tractor after the first though. That is an expensive mistake that many people seem to make. He can get implements later, at least he would have enough power to use them.

I really don't recall hearing guys think they bought too much hp very often.

Yo! I did that with my first tractor. Green utility tractor with 50 engine hp, NE test lab tested at 47 PTO hp, I was running a 6' light duty cutter and never ever went past 1/3 throttle whatever I was cutting, even at moderately high forward speeds.

But this is of course an exception to the general rule. For most people extra hp is good, except for the tractor cost and likely higher fuel consumption of the bigger engine.
