dk35 or dk40

I never priced the DK40,so i don't know what the price differance is.
If you feel you will be under powered with the 35 then it may be better to pay the extra now then to wish you would have after the purchase..

Well, 5 HP might not seem like a lot, but look at it this way.

5HP of 35HP is about 15%. Again, 15% may not seem like that much (seems like a lot to me....)

To look at it from one more direction, if you were buying a car and could get a 150 HP engine, or a 173 HP engine, (a 15% increase), which would you choose?

You see where I'm going here - basically I don't think I've ever heard of anyone complaining about having "too much HP" and wishing they had "saved the money instead" - BUT - I have heard the opposite where someone comes back and said "I wish I had bought a little more tractor."

I'd say if you can swing it financially, opt for the bigger engine.

Bite the Bullet!!

It's always better to have the power and not need it,than to need the power and not have it!

Consider all of the specs on both tractors. There is alot more different between the two other than just 5 HP. Bigger loader, etc. If you ever think you'll need it ya' better go for it. Come to think of it then the DK45 is just a little more.......the DK50........maybe the DK65 w/1730 loader 3500lbs lift to full height. Yep, you should get the DK65./w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

little known fact. the front axel on the DK35 is more beefy than the DK40 and there is little difference in weight. i would skip the Dk40 and go for the DK45 all things condidered.

/w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif Interesting.... How do they differ? (ring/pinion size, axle tube thickness, axle shaft size/splines, etc.)

Seems like a kindof weird deal (e.g. less strength but more HP) Any idea of why they would do that? (guesses are allowed... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif)

HUH! Don't look like it to me. Please clarify.
Thanks, BTI

I also don't understand why the DK40 would have a lighter front axle.
Not only does it have more H.P to deal with, the dk40 uses the kl1470 front loader with 750# more lift capacity than the kl1450 on the dk35...

I was at a dealer in Kentucky and he pointed it out to me. the axel is thicker and the spendals are larger. don't ask me why. i did look and sure enough the axle did look less beefy.

see my post. what type tractor you have BTI? don't get me wrong the dk40 looked like a good tractor and i don't think the axle would break or anything. i just wanted to share an observation. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

If I remember right the 40 came out before the 35. They may have thickened up the axle a little when they brought out the 2 together (running change). The Koreans have this thing about overbuilding things. I have a 40 and a 35 side by side both 2002 models and they are the same. Observation taken as only that no offense taken.

that could be the case in that it was last summer when I saw this. the salesman was trying to steer me towards the dk 45 when i was looking at the dk40 and 35. still the 40 is alot of tractor for the money.
