DK 55 thermostat

Just curious . How long should it take for the thermostat to open and actually show a net gain on the gauge ? Just a curiosity on my part. Thanks, G

With a cold engine in the summer, it should be open in about 2 to 3 minutes with the engine at 1500 rpm's.

Fired it up this a.m. ran it for 10 minutes 5 minutes @1000rpm and 5 minutes @1500rpm. Gauge just started to show signs of movement. I have to go to work and could not sit there getting smoked out waiting for this things to warm up. Is the thermostat perhaps contributing to my smoke, whiter than not in color.
