I am having some trouble changing from 4-wheel to 2-wheel drive, so I am pretty much running in 4-wheel all the time. The lever to the left on the floor doesn't seem to budge. When I did my 50-hr. service a few months ago, I oiled the linkage and that worked--briefly.
Does anyone else experience this problem? Isn't the lever supposed to simply pull and push up and down. Must the tractor be in neutral, clutch in? I'm thinking I just must be overlooking something simple.
Thanks, Michael

Use your bucket to lighten the weight on the front end and the lever should work smooth as silk.

Trace the linkage back to the case again and soak it down with WD-40 or something like that. Then start working the lever up and down, spray some more on it and that should be good. Its a good idea to spray that spot every so often just as a part of regular maintenance. Also try what previous poster said about lifting up the front end with the bucket.

I posted a thread a long time ago about this. I actually made a modification underneath by putting a support bracket on the end of the shaft. However do not be to gentle with the lever but only change it while moving don't use the clutch but while moving and still in gear drop your revs and then engage or disengage 4WD

good info in these posts - my experience has been similar.

one other thing i typically find is that when it's difficult to change from 2x to 4x, i simply roll forward/or backward a few feet, then pop it into gear.

dunno if i need to clutch when i do this - i typically do..

can anyone address if it's necessary to use the clutch when going from 2x to 4x? i'm assuming that it's likely unnecessary because you should be stopped when going from 2x to 4x.

My CK20 manual states:
The front wheel drive should always be engaged when the tractor is stopped. Shift the lever to the "on" position to engage the front wheel.
Then it has an "IMPORTANT" box that says:
Depress the clutch pedal before engaging the front wheel drive lever. Tires will wear quickly if front wheel drive is engaged on paved roads.
The lever will engage without using the clutch, but it's probably best to use it. John

just read your profile - we're in the same field (literally).

i'm a principal tech writer - living on a few hundred acres in s/w NH.

perhaps we should have a kioti get together!?

Thanks to you all who replied. Problem solved.

I took some WD-40 to the linkage, backed out of the barn, shifted into forward, creeped forward, tried to disengage the 4WD lever, wouldn't budge, then clutched and tried again--this time it disengaged.

I conclude that I don't know exactly how to do it but that I can succeed by experimenting with moving, clutching, and so on.

The previous thread was really helpful, thanks for the link.
