I am hoping someone out there can help me with some basic info on a Dixie Chopper "Xcaliber" zero-turn mower... I have a customer that is interested in trading his in - but we have little or no Dixie Chopper presence in our area. So... anything you know would help: high points, low points, how long ago did they start to make them, pricing, etc. I appreciate any information you can give, good or bad. Thanks!!!

I have 4 Dixie Choppers, 2, 42 in , and 2, 60 in cuts. In my opinion, they are outstanding machines for the following reasons. They are built tuff, they have Kohler engines. They are fast. If you are an average mechanic, you can fix anything on this machine. They are expensive. $6500 to $10,000.

They have been around a long time. I purchased my first one, in 1989.

I also use a vacuum system mounted on the back when it is necessary to remove leaves. It has it's own engine.

As far as is it the best, you probably don't have the time to check out all the Zero-turn mowers out there. They make commercial Zero-turns, and are now making home owner Zero-turn mowers. I really don't know of any major problems with the Choppers. They all have replaceable items such as belts, bearings, filters. plugs, tires. Some of the Choppers even have a 1 micron by-pass filter on the engine oil. Helps to keep the engine very clean.

Good reputation, at least in this area. Pretty much a commercial mower, not many in consumer use from my observations. They're made in Indiana. They have one at a campground we frequent and my car buddy thinks they're kind of crude. I guess I'll agree when compared to a consumer machine but for commercial use they seem pretty tough and well built. I'd love to have one!

Good machines. They rank in the top 5 in my opinion. Popular here in east TN due to the affordability (relatively speaking).
