Thanks James. I'm feeling pretty good about it after my second length adjustment adding back 1ft. Not sure it is worth the trouble to extend the coax and play Tarzan to get the box up in the tree. I could add a pole and raise it straight up from under the eave of the house to get some distance and some height from the house.

It is up to you. But if you could solve the noise problem and gain back those many dB's of signal level it would be great. Touch lamps, wall wort power supply's, some LED lamps power supply, Ethernet cabling (my house is near ethernet cable free, I am nearly 100% wifi except for one old printer.) Can all be culprits.

James, have you been watching that Phantom Signals show? It's kind of interesting, and at least different than everything else that's out there.

I haven't, I have thought about it, but I can't ever remember to tune it at the correct time.

Yes, I think I will try to tackle and identify the RF noise issue(s) tomorrow. I sure hope is is only a few appliances because I have house full of ethernet cable running to and even powering a plethora of devices. Not to mention a sat dish receiver for TV. I doubt many folks are more wired (and wireless) in their homes than I am. Really hoping it is a major appliance or two, or even three. If it due to my ethernet and computer systems... uh oh!

Remember how when you bought all that stuff, you thouroughly read and understood the manuals, AND agreed to accept any interfereance they might cause.

How portable is the 7300? Can you power it with a batttery to take around your house, with just a small antenna and use the spectrum anaylizer?

Yep... it is somewhat portable and I do have a portable 12v battery. But I am wanting to check the RFI on the rig while it is located in the 'shack' aka my home office.

It weighs just over 9 lbs and fairly small at 9.4 inches square and 3.7 inches high. and with a 7 amp hour lead acid battery... ummm portable?... Yeah more like "luggable."

If you want more portable, you might want the new 705. Just out. also includes 144 and 430/440 bands and has a LIon battery or runs from any 13.8 volt source. Blu-tooth enabled, wifi enabled, and more. Only 10 watts from 13.8 volt source or 5 watts from internal battery.

Just thought it might be easier to go around the house with a spectrum anylizer and switch stuff on and off.

I do have a 2m handheld receiver that I was also going to use.

FM is inherintly (sp?) more immune to noise. I do get T8 Electronic ballasts swamping FM broadcast band. One of those old crappy multi band portable radios would probably work well.
