Diverter Valve Troubles

Is this a likely premature failure from some pressure inbalance caused by the diverter valve powering the thumb?

Last time I had trouble with the spool valves and took them to be rebuilt they leaked from the top where the valves are visible. Any suggestions as to why they are leaking through the bottom?
There appears to be a plate or cover which is fastened onto the bottom. Don’t know if that holds any pressure but there is a gasket between it and the valve body. I think this is where the drip is coming from
