1966 Ford 4000 3 cylinder gas, 2003 Jinma 354 4x4 diesel
Hi
I have a 1966 ford 4000 3cylinder gas engine. I replaced my distributor with a rebuilt one from All states AG parts. (good people) The new distributor is about 1/4 inch longer than the old one but fits okay. Started the tractor with the new distributor installed and the tractor ran fine for about 5 minutes then started sputtering and running rough. Investigated and found that the plastic piece attached to the points that rides on the rotating shaft had wore down to the metal. Installed a new set of points and the same thing happened. Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this problem. All States AG parts assured me that I ordered the right distributor. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Put a Pertronix electronic ignition kit in it. You will never touch your distributer again - which is nice because those 3 cylinder distributers are a pain to get at.
Ot go to Napa and buy a Good set of Echlen points. It's common knowledge that those points from the land of almost right are not worth anything.

Thanks for the info. We finally figured out the problem. The ignition coil was the culprit. We just bought the tractor and have been weeding out the gremlins and this was one of them.
