Well, I put a pipe sheath, closed on one end, over the posts... keeps bent posts to minimum.... and, for me, rock can be maybe 1 to 4 inches down... so hard drives DO happen.

Lots of variables in the question of whether or not your tractor will pull a 10' disk. The best thing to do is find the data plate on the disk you're considering and call the manufacturer with the model number, they'll tell you what you need to pull it. My gut reaction is that your tractor won't pull a 10' disk of decent construction satisfactorilary. A few weeks ago I found a nice condition 12' double offset disk that a guy wanted to sell for $1000. Looking at it I doubted my 72 HP massey 4wd would pull it so I emailed the manufacturer and asked. Their response was a 85-90 HP tractor required. I hated to pass on it but had no choice.

I am pulling an old 11 ft transport disc using a 45 hp 4wd tractor with no problems. Our ground is heavy, flinty sod. The disc has a big steel I beam on top of it for weight.

good example of how the ground makes a difference. Tha disc with all the weight isn't getting real deep into the ground looking at the pics.

But in sandy loam my lightweight 5' disc is burried to the axle. In this soil it doesn't matter the disc size. They will all go up to the axle and have to be feathered a bit to keep from burying the tracor.
