I am looking to purchase my first tractor and posted a previous message here asking for help on what tractor would best suit me. I got really good advice from the group here at TBN and really appreciated it. Now that I have gotten more serious about my search and ready to purchase it has gotten very hard after looking at pricing where I live in Kentucky versus prices I see in other states. I would really like to buy a new tractor but will more than likely limit my search to a used one now. Even the used tractors seem a lot higher in my area, unless they are worn out. After looking at Tractor House, Ebay and several other outlets I see now that they are cheaper everywhere over where I live or atleast it seems that way. Anyone else get this feeling?

I would really like to purchase something from a dealer locally. We have, let's see Deere, NH, MF, Case, and McCormick. One of the NH dealers also has Kubota but I have really had no luck pricing new equipment. I see prices posted on this site a lot after someone has purchased new equipment and I can't seem to get even a sniff of prices like a lot here are paying. I really like the Mahindra tractors but there are no dealers in my area for them and I wonder how much luck I would have with local outlets if I purchased one and had a problem with it sometime. There is a Kioti dealer fairly close to me that I think I will go visit while I'm on vacation this week, but it is still far enough away that it would be a hassle if I needed something done.

Okay, I am done venting! Had to get it out and although my better half supports my need/want of a tractor she doesn't do tractor talk well! =)

If it's any help, we are in the same boat in northern New England. It is frustrating, but I suppose that it keeps used prices that way too if you have to sell, or want to. Don't be so sure that everyone is actually getting the prices that are posted here also....... like a good story, things sometimes get rounded off a bit. If you are patient, you can find something eventually, if you want it soon, you may have to pay a bit more than you would like. Like parking places at Christmas time, timing is everything! Keep the faith!

I'm not sure what color tractor you are looking for but if Kubota is a possibility, since you are in Kentucky you could check out Barlow equipment. I got a quote from them that is significantly better than a local dealer for the same tractor even if I include shipping it to Maine.

I noticed that today. Someone posted comparison of three brands of tractor loader backhoe, his prices were around 2000.00 less then in New England. It's the same for Harleys ,snowmobiles. My friend buys his stuff in upstate NY and gets it himself or has it delivered. I bought locally but I like the dealership and they have treated me good . I'd imagine states closer to the distribution centers, manufacturers might have lower pricing. plowking

There is a big Bota dealer in Summerset, Kentucky. I got a quote from him a year ago that was real good but decided against driveing 500mi. one way. I think they sell other brands too.

You have to remember everything is getting more expensive. Have you thought about one of the imports from China like a Jinma? You get a lot of bang for your buck if you can do your own maint.

Joester,

I live in Central Kentucky and did some "HARD" searching for the best fit for a new tractor. According to everyone on TBN that I've spoken with, I pratically stole the tractor from my local dealer. I didn't have to price haggle (much), they came down about $500 off the price tag that they had on the tractor initially.

I'm a cheap arse and wanted to get the absolute best tractor for my dollar and took into consideration the 4wd tractors sicne their resale valve seems to be so much better. I looked at NH, Deere, Mahindra, and Kubota. I settled on the Kubota and got a smokin' price on an M5040DT 4wd from Northside Equipment in Richmond. Their telephone # is 859-623-5167. You need to talk to Mike Pearson. He's one of the owners. Good guy to work with.

Thanks Conn, I might give him a call. I was really hoping to find one at a dealer near me but having no luck. I went to pretty much all of them today geared more towards a used tractor (30-35hp) with an fel and found nothing. Actually, I only found one tractor even in the horsepower range without the fel. I priced a new NH1520 with fel and it was just out of my range. I didn't try and haggle any because there was just too much difference. I still haven't made my way to the Kioti dealer yet, but plan to sometime this week. I did find a couple of tractors on ebay I might be interested in. I would have to go and see them before I could bid and the two are both about 150 miles in different directions from me. Both end fairly soon and I doubt I'm going to make the trip. Anyway, thanks again for the #.

Joester, I split my time between Az and KY my tractor shopping was pretty much open to most of the US. The used market in KY is high and the only thing that I can figure out is they have more value there because they earn thier keep. Also a lot of folks can not afford new. Did the local NH/Kubota dealer have a three part name? Hint; HDR. I ended up buying from Barlow's in Sommerset. No BS gave me a price and I knew it was right. They are 100 miles away, but I do my own maintenance. I always give the local guys a shot at my business, but I can't afford them. I find that even on attachments I can save 15% by driving 20 miles to Glasgow.
