Disengage HST

Broke the drive belt to the main pump on Kubota T 1760 Kawasaki 2 cyl water cooled w/48" deck...375 hrs no repairs before. Problem was getting the mower to the trailer 100 yds away holding out the release rod and steering.\
Is there anyway to lock this out and not have to crab along bent over holding w/one hand and steering w/the other.It was rather daunting to a 240# 76 yr old trying to mow the back lot of the church.In hindsight I could have clamped it w/vise grips possibly but then who carries them off somewhere.
Any body been in this fix?

My Hydrostatic lawn tractor has a keyhole slot. You pull the lever out and through the round hold and slide it down to slot and it is held in place.

Thanks Spence. Apparently yours is more effective than my Kubota 1760.It has an angled rod however it doesn't hold well. Appreciate your tho'ts however.
