I am looking for a disc harrow for my Nortrac 254 (25 h.p. , 4wd). I am looking at a "King Kutter" 66-inch unit. My questions is: before I pull the trigger on the deal and have them ship it half-way across the country, will the tractor pull this? I don稚 want to get more implement than I can pull. Will the 66" work, or do I need to get something smaller?

Where are you located? Soil types play a big role in how big of one you can pull. For example, I am in NC in red clay. A 4 footer is all my 32HP yanmar wants. A lot depends on the weight as well. Mine is a old heavy one. Many of the newer ones will require weight on top in order to cut deep in harder soils.

Check and see if there is a tractor supply store near you (TSC). They carry King Cutter in my area.

I have a 5 1/2' KK Box Frame Disc....as your talking about? I've pulled it with a JD790 (25 PTO HP lightweight 4WD tractor). I put fluid in my R1 tires and the tractor handled the disc fairly well but needed 4wd and everthing the tractor had when the disc is set moderately aggressive.

As said.....so much depends on soils, tires, weight, and how aggressive you have the disc set-up. To use for primary tillage ? "maybe"...depending on soil types and your expectations. It may take a few passes.

I have not used my disc with my current tractor - yet. I got more weight and bigger tires.....but R4 instead of R1 tires now....so :confused2::confused:.....time will tell.

I would guess that under almost all conditions, 6’ is a bit too big for your tractor. You could make due, but it would work your tractor harder than it wants to work. Since you’re buying new, may as well buy the perfect size.
