The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that gasoline prices may hit the $3.00 per gallon point this comming summer. Obviously gasoline isn't diesel fuel, but they are are petroleum products. Thank goodness our tractors are considerably efficient on fuel, but it's still gonna affect operating costs. I really feel sorry for the farmers & fleet operators when I hear this news. The farmer working only 360 acres around my place uses about 1500 gallons of diesel at planting and at picking, and this plot is only about 1/3 his total acreage. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

And yet the U.S. is sending $80 billion to Iraq for nothing. I think at the very least we should be getting some oil at a reduced price in return.

If I had a dollar for every time they predicted $3 a gallon prices I wouldn't have to pay for my fuel /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Good point there, I recall back around 1978 or so gas was creeping up to near a dollar a gallon and everyone was so UPSET about that. Here it is 25 years later and the same fuel is about $1.60 per gallon. It is interesting to see how cheap gasoline actually is if you adjust the cost for inflation during that period. Instead of moaning about the possibility of having to pay $3 a gallon we should be grateful it didn't cost that much ten years ago....!!

I love this site! Where else can you find environmental and political commentary like this /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I can remember driving away from an Amoco station around 1972, swearing I would never pay 42.9 for a gallon of gas /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So many threads, so little bandwidth! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif If you remember right it was to long ago we were paying just over a buck. Seems every little excuse is used to raise everything double digit. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif oh except my paystub /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

42.9 cents a gallon....that was a big ripoff and you were right to drive away. Back in the dark ages of high school I had a part time job pumping Gulftane for 34 cents a gallon and it was full service with a free car wash included for a five dollar fillup. The good old days. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Heck.... Gulftane was only a step up from kerosene..... I remember filling the 1934 Dodge pickup in 1962 in Hartford CT and the price was 17.9..... I don't remember if it was a price war or not, but I knew it was cheap and it was about 1934 quality for gasoline.. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I wish we had your prices up here! Our price today is 75.9 per litre - if there are 4 liters per U.S. gallon, that's over $3.00 (Cdn.) per US gallon here already! It was up around 82.9 per liter briefly before Christmas. Enjoy it while it's as "low" as it is!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
