Not always, do you have your owners manual? Get a flashlight to help see the level. Some like to put an approved dye in the fluid...but not I.

Some tractors have a sight glass while others use a dipstick. If the tractor is not level neither will be accurate. When parked level either works fine. Get your level halfway up the sight glass. You can see a difference of even a quart.
