I am flood irrigating my 45 acre hay field. My dikes are worn down bad in some areas so I can't get the water to push all the way to the end.

What would be the easiest way to build up my dikes in the low areas of my dikes? I would like to rip up the whole field and start over but that is not an option at this time. Is there a tractor implement I could use to build up the low spots on my dikes?

Here are a few pics of my concrete flood system so you can get an idea of what I am doing. I would be grateful for all suggestions , thanks.

Just Thinking - Maybe not worth even reading.

A quick temp fix could be concrete pipe. Plastic would be cheaper, but would need some weight added. With pipe in place some dirt should hold for a while.

The old farm out front of me use to put in pre-cast concrete water ditches. They still have and use an "Old" Ford tractor with a cement mixer on it. At one time their fields ran about 6 miles long by about a mile wide. Only a small part of it is farmed now.

Old or new steel culvert would work, but may be costly.

At least some food for thought.

This system if irrigation is what I was raised with for the most part. Except we did not have concrete and we used Siphon tubes to get water over the top. You haven't lived until you have set 100 acres with tubes. Oh I was raised in nw Wyoming. This all said, I am not sure I understand the issue. Has the concrete settled and you have low spots or you can't get water to the gate? I have seen concrete culverts get leveled out using a pickle fork to get under and filling up with dirt. You could also just berm earth to raise wall height. I would get a small track hoe with a wide scoop bucket and berm the low spots up.

If it is a gate issue why not just go to siphon tubes?

Thier are a couple of P.T.O. powered ditching machines on the market,
but the rental of a small finish dozer with a six way blade would be more productive as only a little soil will need to be carved away and pushed back.

Not sure exactly what you are having a problem with. If it is the dirt ridges that divide the field into sections for irrigation, a border disk is what is needed.

That's exactly what it is. It has low dirt ridges that go from the concrete ditch clear across the field at an angle. The problem is that the ridges have settled over time in places probably from a combination of machinery packing it while haying and washout from years of irrigating. The ditch itself is in great shape

The implement you posted on the picture looks like it would be effective in fixing these low spots. All I really need is to patch it up basically to get a couple of more years out of it.

I could bring in fill dirt with my tractor and pour it on the low spots and rake it up where I want it. But the angle plow definitely looks like it could make it a pretty easy job. Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys.

Any other suggestions from anyone else is always welcome.

The border disk will build the irrigation borders or rebuild them. No additional dirt is needed, in my experience.

It is an implement that is not used very often, so maybe a neighbor has one to borrow, or a dealer may have a rental.

It will look like this after the border disk is used. The dirt for the border comes from beside it.

Yep, that's the way these ridges once were I'm sure. So it looks like there is a solution after all here.

Will the border disc create these ridges on it's own without having to tear up the ground first to loosen it? Looks to me like it will do it on it's own.

I have a 37 HP tractor. Is that enough tractor to get it done or will I need a bigger one?

Thanks.

My experience was with a JD Model A, about the same HP as yours, about 4000lbs +-. It did it easily. No preparation was needed.

Soils may differ, but I would think at the most two passes would fix almost anything.
