I tried digging with the minihoe on the pond. It was very slow because the bucket does not hold a lot of material and you have to move it so far to dump it out of the pond. This was when it was getting pretty deep. The trencher worked much better because it would actually move the dirt out, acting as a conveyor, pulling the dirt along the ground and towards the PT. The minihoe will work, it just was slow.

You might try breaking up the soil with the minihoe and then moving it out with one of the buckets.
